An optical subassembly is disclosed, in which an optical device is assembled with an optical receptacle using an anchor effect for the ultraviolet curable resin. The optical receptacle includes a sleeve portion that receives an external optical fiber and a sheath portion that receives the optical device. A bore formed in the sheath portion circumferentially provides a plurality of ribs; while the pillar portion of the optical device that encloses a semiconductor optical device provides a plurality of hollows in positions corresponding to the ribs. The rib shows the anchor effect for the resin filled within the hollow.

An optical module with a sleeve assembly is disclosed. The sleeve assembly, which receives a ferrule secured in an end of the optical connector and is primarily made of resin material, provides a buried member made of a material, typically meal, having a polygonal cross section, a linear thermal expansion coefficient less than that of the resin material and a Young's Modulus greater than that of the resin material. The bore of the sleeve assembly has a deformed circular shape with a first diameter less than the outer diameter of the ferrule.

The present invention provides an optical transceiver for readily engaging a plug of a circuit board with a connector. The optical transceiver is provided with a pair of guides for guiding the plug to the connector while contacting the outer side faces of the connector disposed on a host board. The connector is contained in a cage provided on the host board. When the optical transceiver is inserted into the cage, the guides contact the outer side faces of the connector to define the position of the optical transceiver relative to the connector, whereby the plug is smoothly guided to the connector.

The present invention provides an optical module with an improved temperature condition surrounding an opto-electronic device. The optical module of the present invention comprises an optical sub-assembly including an opto-electronic device, a first circuit board electrically connected to the optical sub-assembly, an electronic device mounted on the first circuit board, a lower housing for mounting the first circuit board, an upper housing for covering the circuit board and electronic device, and a metal cover for covering the upper housing. Constructed in the optical module are a first heat-dissipating path for dissipating heat from the electronic device to the cover via the upper housing, and a second heat-dissipating path, different from the first heat-dissipating path, for dissipating heat from the optical sub-assembly to the cover by way of the upper housing.

Optical module

The present invention provides an optical transceiver with an optical subassembly optically coupling with an optical connector via a receptacle member, in which the optical subassembly is positioned to the housing of the transceiver without causing any mechanical stress. The optical subassembly is fixed to the receptacle member by inserting a sleeve thereof into an opening of the receptacle member. The receptacle member is assembled with the housing via the holder by adjusting the positional relation between the holder and the housing. Therefore, even when the subassembly is fixed to the receptacle member via the sleeve thereof, the subassembly can fit to the housing without causing any mechanical stress because the holder is interposed therebetween, which secures the heat dissipating path from the optical subassembly to the housing.

The present invention provides an optical transceiver that has an optical semiconductor device coupled to an optical fiber via an optical connector attached to an end of the optical fiber. The optical transceiver comprises at least one optical subassembly including the optical semiconductor device, an optical receptacle, a substrate, a frame and a cover. The optical semiconductor device optically couples to the optical fiber by mating the optical connector with the optical receptacle. The frame installs the optical subassembly, the optical receptacle, and the frame. According to the present invention, the optical receptacle is optionally positioned to the frame, so mechanical stress induced therebetween may be relaxed.

The present invention provides an optical module having a pluggable configuration, which enables to latch with the cage when the optical connector is mated with the receptacle. The optical module of the present invention is secured in the cage by latching the latch of the cage and the projection of the module. The actuator of the module, having a slab protruding into the optical receptacle, is able to slide along the direction the module is inserted into the cage. When the optical connector is in the optical receptacle, the slab of the actuator butts the optical connector and is prohibited to slide, accordingly, the optical module can not released from the cage.

The optical pluggable transceiver according to the present invention has features of a good heat dissipating function with a simplified configuration thereby reducing the cost of not only the component used but also the process itself. The transceiver of the present invention comprises a resin frame, an optical subassembly, a electronic substrate, both mounted on the frame, a heat dissipating member, made of metal, for conducting and radiating heat generated by the electronic circuit on the substrate, and a metal cover for putting these frame, subassembly, substrate, and heat dissipating member therein. A greater part of the surface of the heat dissipating member exposes from the cover, accordingly, the efficiency for radiating heat may be improved. Moreover, these members of the frame, the optical subassembly, the substrate, the heat dissipating member, and the cover are assembled only by fitting without screwing or gluing. Accordingly, the manufacturing process of the transceiver can be extremely simplified.

Optical pluggable transceiver

The present invention provides a configuration to improve a heat-radiating effect of an optical subassembly having a co-axial package and a plurality of lead pins arranged in an arrayed shape. The heat generated inside the subassembly may be dissipated through the heat-radiating fin attached to a flat surface, not a curved side surface of the subassembly such that the lead pins provided in the subassembly pass through the slot provided in the heat-radiating fin. The heat-radiating fin has a slab portion attached to the cover of the transceiver, when the subassembly is installed within the transceiver. Thus, the heat generated in the subassembly can be easily and effectively dissipated to the cover.

An optical module is inserted into a cage containing a connector electrically connected to a conductive wiring on a host board. The cage, the connector and the conductive wiring is provided on the host board. The optical module includes a circuit board and a housing. The circuit board has a card edge connector at an edge thereof. The card edge connector mates with the connector on the host board. The housing has a conductive ceiling with a rear edge and builds the circuit board therein. The conductive ceiling has a stopper supported thereby and protrudes therefrom. The stopper extrudes from the edge of the circuit board and the rear edge of the conductive ceiling.

Optical module and optical hub system

The optical module includes a housing, an optical subassembly, a support and a thermal sheet. The housing has a base and a cover. The support having two leg portions and a bridge connecting these leg portions is placed on the bottom surface of the base. The optical subassembly is disposed between the leg portions without in contact with the bridge. The thermal sheet is provided between the bridge of the support and the cover. Heat generated in the optical subassembly is transferred in sequence to the leg portions, the bridge, the thermal sheet and the cover.

This invention provides an optical module that enables to reduce an optical coupling loss when an external force is applied to an optical connector mating with the optical module. The present optical module comprises an optical sub-assembly and an optical receptacle having a cavity for receiving the optical connector and a space for receiving the optical sub-assembly. The optical sub-assembly provides a flange in its outer surface and the head portion thereof passes through the partition wall between the cavity and the space. Between the flange of the optical sub-assembly and the partition wall of the optical receptacle provides an O-ring, whereby the head portion of the optical sub-assembly enables to displace in the cavity and automatically recovers its original position.

An optical connection sleevefor optically connecting an optical fiberand an optical deviceis constituted by a resin sleeveincluding an end portionin which a ferruleis inserted and a metal sleeveincluding an end portionon which the optical deviceis disposed, the metal sleevebeing insert-molded in the resin sleeveto be fixed thereto. With such a constitution, occurrence of positional deviation between the sleeveand an optical device unitis prevented, and the optical fiberand the optical devicecan be optically connected surely. Furthermore, it is prevented that the sleeve portion extending cylindrically functions as an antenna for electromagnetic noises. Accordingly, the optical connection sleeve in which the optical fiber and an optical component as the optical device are optically connected with high accuracy, and influences of the electromagnetic noises are fully reduced, an optical module and an optical communication module using the optical connection sleeve are realized.
