A communication apparatus is provided which makes it possible to print out all data larger than a display screen in one operation. In addition, the communication apparatus analyzes received data, generates data for display indicating a screen to be displayed on a display unit and generates data for printing from data for display corresponding to a plurality of screens according to an instruction of printing.

A communication apparatus for an exchange network having a service of notifying the telephone number of a caller during a call-receiving operation can recognize respective callers of past call-receiving operations. During a call-receiving operation, a communication partner's telephone number detection unit detects the telephone number (identification information) of the caller, and stores the detected telephone number in a nonvolatile RAM (random access memory). In a communicating apparatus which accommodates a plurality of channels, a message from a sender can be recorded even if a transfer station is busy (a telephone is being employed) or is located at a place where a radio wave does not reach. When the specified signal is received, the communication apparatus suspends the transfer of the call and stores a message from the sender using a message recording function of the communicating apparatus.

A CI signal of a V.8 protocol is transmitted in response to the reception of a DIS signal indicating the provision of a V.8 facility, and the V.8 protocol is executed in response to the reception of an ANSam signal of V.8, and when the DIS signal indicating the provision of the V.8 facility is received without receiving the ANSam signal, the CI signal is retransmitted. When a transmitting station or a receiving station does not have a V.34 facility after the V.8 protocol, the DIS signal indicating the non-provision of the V.8 facility is transmitted. Thus, when the V.8 protocol facility is provided with a facsimile apparatus, communication with a conventional apparatus having only a T.30 protocol is attained.

A facsimile communication system and a communication apparatus reduce a loss time due to the synchronization of transmission/reception and shorten a communication time. They also shorten a communication time in a full duplex communication mode and allow proper switching of the full duplex communication at the transmission/reception replacement. DIS-CFR signals, EOP-DCN signals, NSS-TSI signals and TSI-DCS signals of a facsimile communication protocol are connected by synchronization signals so that the synchronization signals are sent even after the sending of the protocol signal. Thus, the sending of the synchronization signal for one second when the next protocol signal is sent is not necessary and a time required for the protocol signal is shortened. A portable facsimile apparatus in which, each recording paper (or each document to be transmitted) may be set in place by a manual operation. In a case where the portable facsimile apparatus needs additional recording paper (or an additional document) to be set by an operator during image reception or image transmission, the portable facsimile apparatus so informs the operator, while the apparatus delays shifting following image reception or image transmission. A communication system is constructed by interconnecting a data terminal and a communication terminal via an interface.
