A magnet head device capable of minimizing the sway of a head body in a direction parallel to a front surface of a recording medium, and which allows easy application of a pressing force to press the head body into contact with the front surface of the recording medium. In one embodiment of the invention, the magnetic head comprises a carriage having a main body extending over a recording medium, an elastically deformable support member connected to the bent portion of the carriage, and a head body installed to the support member. The support member may be fixed in surface-contact with the bent portion of the carriage and bent at a surface where the support member is fixed to the bent portion and extends along the recording medium. In one embodiment, the corner of the bend of the support member provides the support point of connection.

Magnetic head device supported by a bent load beam

A magnetic head in which a pole core is formed on a base, and a planar coil, formed as a thin film coil, winds around the pole core. A cover, formed of a ceramic material or the like, is provided on the base. Using a planar film allows thinner magnetic heads to be produced. Since the planar coil can be brought close to an end of the pole core, a magnetic field can be generated more efficiently, and the recording performance can be improved.

A magnetic head device in which one end of a load beam is bent to form a stepped portion, and a vertical bent surface and a pivot are integrally formed. The vertical bent surface provides a load beam height with respect to the head body 1. A fulcrum, the top portion of the pivot, and virtually the center of a head body are lined up in a straight line in the vertical direction, so that the floating force acting on the head body acts vertically on the fulcrum, so that a moment is not produced. Therefore, the floating posture of the head body becomes stable.

A flexure (2) has hook-shaped restricting pieces (18, 18), while a load beam (3) opposed to the restricting pieces (18, 18) is provided with an insert piece (11). When the flexure (2) and the load beam (3) are secured, the insert piece (11) of the load beam (3) is inserted in the restricting pieces (18, 18), so that the vertical shift of the flexure (2) is limited to within the height (H) of the restricting pieces (18). Hence, even if the magnetic head device is subjected to a strong impact, the flexure (2) does not shift in excess of the height (H), thus permitting improved shock resistance of the flexure (2).

A supporting structure of a magnetic head device in which small holes of the same size are formed so as to be distributed in a resiliently deformable portion in order to reduce the spring constant thereof and make the resiliently deformable portion less susceptible to torsional resonance. In particular, when the holes are formed at equal intervals in a direction parallel to diagonals drawn across the resilently deformable portion so that the holes are not formed on the diagonals, a structure less susceptible to torsional resonance can be provided.

In a magnetic head device, I-shaped side and center cores are fitted to a slider, and magnetic gaps are formed by a part of the slider. Therefore, a magnetic path can be shortened, and the magnetic head device is constructed so as not to leave strains on the cores, so that the core loss is low. In addition, a back core (back plate) having a wide area is provided, so that heat-dissipating effect is enhanced. Therefore, magnetic field-generating efficiency can be improved in wide frequency bands. Further, by decreasing the number of turns of a coil, the inductance, the impedance, and the loss factor can be reduced.

In a magnetic head apparatus that generates a strong magnetic field of magneto-optical recording or the like, a joint assembly of main and side cores is fitted into an accommodating groove formed in a ceramic slider, and a bobbin having a coil wound around it is fitted onto the main core. Further, a back core is fastened to the main and side coils. An electrical insulating layer extending along the dimension of the magnetic path is formed in the main core to divide conductive region by the sections of the main core. Thus, the eddy current generated along a dimension perpendicular to the magnetic path is suppressed, whereby the core loss is mitigated and the quantity of heat generated in the core is reduced.

A floating magnetic head of the type in which a slider is joined to the free end of a magnetic head support device includes wings provided in the free end section of the magnetic head support device and engaged with notches provided in slider sections excluding the ABS surface thereof, thereby providing a high level of resistance to impacts and vibrations. Further, a floating magnetic head of the type in which a slider having a magnetic core is attached to the front end of a suspension element through the intermediation of a flexure includes: a recess formed in the middle section of a flexure attachment surface of the slider and having a bottom surface to which the flexure is attached; walls formed on both sides of the recess; and grooves for weight balance adjustment formed in the walls, whereby the center of gravity of the slider coincides with the position of the load protuberance not only in the height direction of the slider but also in the horizontal direction of the same, so that the a stable floating attitude can be maintained during seeking operation, etc.

A magnetic head for a magneto-optical recording device for magnetically recording information onto a magnetic recording medium under the condition where the magnetic recording medium is heated by irradiation of a laser beam. A leakage magnetic field is effectively suppressed by a skin effect, and a magnetic field due to an eddy current is effectively summed up with a magnetic field generated from the core end, thereby increasing an intensity of a total magnetic field to be applied to the magnetic recording medium. Further, a distribution of the magnetic field intensity at the core end can be easily adjusted to stably and widely apply the magnetic field to the magnetic recording medium.

A magnetic head for photo-magnetic recording wherein an adaptor is attached to the distal end of a load beam, and a slider is joined to the adaptor via a flexure. A flat portion of the adaptor to which is attached the flexure is inclined at a given angle in the radial direction of a photo-magnetic disk, or the flat portion of the adaptor and a tongue of the flexure are inclined at respective given angles in the rotational direction of the photo-magnetic disk. The sliding mounting height is set optionally, a static attitude of the slider is held horizontally and stably, and the head is reduced in size and weight to permit high-speed access.

In a magneto-optical recording apparatus, a magnetic head is employed so as to perform vertical, or perpendicular magnetic recording. The magnetic head is constructed of a slider and a plurality of magnetic cores symmetrically positioned with respect to an axis of a magnetic recording medium. Each of the magnetic cores includes a main core, a return path core, and a gap.
