When a user places his finger on a fingerprint detecting section, in the fingerprint detecting section, a shadow made by the finger placed on the fingerprint detecting section is detected by a sensor portion, and then, when it is judged that a shape of the detected shadow coincides with a distribution of the shadow made by the user's finger, and thereby, a power is turned on. Thereafter, a fingerprint is detected from the finger placed on the fingerprint detecting section, and then, the detected fingerprint is collated with a previously stored fingerprint data so as to identify the user. Further, it is possible to use various data such as schedule data corresponding to the identified user. Therefore, this dispenses an operation for turning on the power and an instruction for starting fingerprint collation.

Information processing apparatus

There is provided a scroll controller which solves a problem that in scrolling an image at coordinates specified by a pen or the like to specific coordinates (e.g., the center), it is unable in a display such as a liquid crystal display having a slow display reaction speed to grasp the state of movement when a scroll quantity (scroll speed) per unit time is fast. The scroll controller calculates a difference between prefixed coordinates and the coordinate position specified by a position specifying device and on the basis of the calculation result, controls so that not only stepwise scroll quantities are obtained, but also scroll quantities in starting and ending of the scroll are different from that in the other time of the scroll.

Scroll controller

An imaging apparatus has a CCD with a predetermined aspect ratio, and a converging lens for projecting incident light onto the CCD. In the imaging apparatus, there is provided a ratio changing mechanism between the converging lens and the CCD, and an aspect ratio which is optically determined through the converging lens is selectively varied by the ratio changing mechanism so as to substantially coincide with the aspect ratio of the CCD.

Character recognition device

In a graphic preparing device of the present invention, when a user wants to place an image of post office, which is not stored beforehand, on a road, the picture of the post office is taken by a CCD camera, and is displayed on an additional symbol display position of a symbol display section. When a confirmation key is pressed at a timing when a desirable symbol is displayed on a screen, the displayed image is stored as a symbol. Then, when inside of a frame of the additional symbol display position of the symbol display section is touched with an input pen, and is dragged to a predetermined position on the road, the image of post office as stored as a symbol is displayed on the road, and is stored as a symbol on a map. Namely, the symbol incorporated by the CCD camera is treated in the same way as a common symbol. Also, the frame of the symbol touched with the input pen is enhance-displayed.

An e-mail sending/receiving system is furnished with a host computer having a storage section for storing mails, a first control device for extracting the mails to be sent to a terminal in accordance with priorities assigned to the mails. An object of the invention is to easily and firmly read an image and to reduce power consumption. An image reading and displaying apparatus comprises a scanner for reading an image of a document arranged on the side of a read face where photocells are arranged in a matrix form, to output image information, a RAM for storing the image information from the scanner and a display device of a light transmitting type such including a display face for displaying the image information stored in RAM, the display device being such arranged that a back face of the display face contacts with a back face of the read face. Since the back face of the display face is arranged so as to contact the back face of the read face, an operator can confirm the image to be read, whereby the image can be read with certainty.

An information processing apparatus having a main body and a lid body is configured so that the lid body can be switched between a closed state, a stacked state, a double screen state and an inverted state. Each of the main body and the lid body has a display section for displaying information and an input section composed of a transparent tablet and provided on the display section. As a sensor or the like detects the lid body in one of the four states, a control section of the information processing apparatus controls the display section so that a screen on the display section is appropriate to the detected state of the lid body. The control section also controls the lighting section for lighting the display section appropriately to the detected state of the lid body. This realizes appropriate display in accordance with usages of the information processing apparatus and offers an easy-to-operate and easy-to-use information processing apparatus. Besides, the lighting section is turned on/off according to needs, and therefore it is possible to prevent heat generation and to restrain power consumption.

In an information processing device, in the case where a window is edited by a user referring to data of a window which is positioned behind all the other displayed windows, the window to be referred to is touched, a function key displayed on the left bottom corner of the display screen is pressed, and a portion of the window to be referred to is dragged by a pen so as to specify a region to be referred to. This allows the portion of the window specified by the pen to be displayed in front of the window to be edited. As a result, in the case where editing of data is carried out on an active window referring to a window which is not an active window, the window to be referred to and the window to be edited are both clearly recognized without carrying out a complicated operation.

Information processing device and information processing method

An information processor having a scheduling function according to the present invention includes an input device, a memory for storing elementary item schedules, a RTC for generating time and date information, a CPU for detection for detecting a predetermined period based on the time and the date information generated by the RTC, a display for automatically displaying a list of the elementary item schedules stored in the memory at every predetermined period detected by the CPU for detection, and a selecting device for selecting a desired schedule from the list of the elementary item schedules displayed by the display device.
