The present invention provides a surface conditioning composition having a surface conditioning function that is even more superior as compared with conventional surface conditioning compositions. A surface conditioning composition is provided for use in surface conditioning of a metal prior to being subjected to a phosphate-based chemical conversion treatment, in which the surface conditioning composition has a pH of 3 to 12, and includes nearly spherical zinc phosphate particles having an average particle diameter from 0.05 &#x3bc;m to 3 &#x3bc;m, and in which the zinc phosphate particles are produced by mixing at least one kind of zinc compound particles selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide, zinc hydroxide, and basic zinc carbonate with phosphoric acid and/or condensed phosphoric acid to allow for their reaction in an acidic aqueous solution having a pH lower than 7, and dispersing and stabilizing by a dispersion means.

Surface conditioning composition, method for producing the same, and surface conditioning method

A metal surface treatment method for a metal base material in order to improve the uniformity of a cathodic electrodeposition coating film, the method including: a surface treatment step for forming a chemical conversion film on a metal base material by contacting the metal base material with a metal surface treatment composition including zirconium and/or titanium ions and an adhesive imparting agent characterized in being at least one selected from the group consisting of (A) silicon-containing compound, (B) adhesive imparting metal ion, and (C) adhesive imparting resin; and a heating/drying step to heat and dry the metal base material, on which the chemical conversion film is formed, at 60&#xb0; C. to 190&#xb0; C. for at least 30 seconds.

Method of treating surface of metal base metallic material treated by the surface treatment method and method of coating the metallic material

A surface conditioning composition for use in surface conditioning of a metal prior to being subjected to a phosphate-based chemical conversion treatment, in which the surface conditioning composition has a pH of 3 to 12, and includes at least one kind of zinc compound particles selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide particles, zinc hydroxide particles, and basic zinc carbonate particles; phosphoric acid and/or condensed phosphoric acid; and an amine compound having a specific structure and in which the zinc compound particles are dispersed and stabilized by the phosphoric acid and/or condensed phosphoric acid, and the amine compound.

A metal material is contacted with a treatment solution containing zirconium and/or titanium compound, and a polyamine compound having a number average molecular weight from 150 to 500,000 and containing from 0.1 mmol to 17 mmol of primary and/or secondary amino group per 1 g of solid content and at least one siloxane unit. Concentration of zirconium and/or titanium compound in the metal surface treatment composition is from 10 ppm to 10,000 ppm with respect to the metal element, and mass ratio of the zirconium and/or titanium element is from 0.1 to 100 with respect to the polyamine compound. According to the present invention, provided is an electrodeposition coating composition, which can form an electrodeposition coating film having excellent corrosion resistance and coating film smoothness. The present invention relates to an electrodeposition coating composition comprising a soluble metal compound (A), amine-modified resin (B) and curing agent (C), wherein the resin (B) has an average molecular weight of 1,000 to 5,000, an amine value of 20 to 100 mgKOH/g and a hydroxyl value of 50 to 400 mgKOH/g, a theoretical residual hydroxyl value when the resin (B) and curing agent are reacted in an electrodeposition coating film is from 30 to 350 mgKOH/g, and the ratio (R) of the concentration of the theoretical residual hydroxyl value to the concentration of the compound (A) in the composition, based on the total of the solid content of the resin (B) and the curing agent in the composition satisfies the relationship (4,000&#x3c;R&#x3c;400,000).

Electrodeposition coating composition

Disclosed is an easily handleable composition for metal surface treatment which enables to achieve foundation surface concealment, coating adhesion and corrosion resistance equal to or higher than those obtained by the conventional metal surface treatment compositions. This composition for metal surface treatment places no burden on the environment. Also disclosed are a method for treating the surface of a metal material wherein such a composition for metal surface treatment is used, and a metal material treated by such a metal surface treatment method. Specifically disclosed is a metal surface treatment composition used for a treatment of a metal surface, which composition contains a zirconium compound and/or titanium compound substantially not containing fluorine, and an inorganic acid and/or a salt thereof. Metal surface treatment composition, metal surface treatment method, and metal material

A composition for metal surface treatment can form a chemical conversion coating film which achieves sufficient foundation surface concealment, coating adhesion and corrosion resistance. A method for treating the surface of a metal material with such a composition for metal surface treatment is used. Specifically a metal surface treatment composition used for a treatment of a metal surface, contains a zirconium compound and/or a titanium compound, and a polyamine compound having a number average molecular weight of not less than 150 but not more than 500,000. The polyamine compound contains not less than 0.1 millimole but not more than 17 millimoles of a primary and/or secondary amino group per 1 g of the solid content, and the content of the zirconium compound and/or titanium compound in the metal surface treatment composition is not less than 10 ppm but not more than 10,000 ppm in terms of metal elements. The mass ratio of the zirconium element and/or titanium element contained in the zirconium compound and/or titanium compound relative to the polyamine compound is not less than 0.1 but not more than 100.

A surface treatment with a zirconium ion that enables sufficient throwing power and superior anti-corrosion properties to be exhibited when thus surface treated metal base material is subjected to cation electrodeposition coating is provided. A metal surface treatment liquid thereof for cation electrodeposition coating includes zirconium ions, copper ions, and other metal ions, and having a pH of 1.5 to 6.5, in which: the other metal ions are at least one selected from the group consisting of tin ions, indium ions, aluminum ions, niobium ions, tantalum ions, yttrium ions and cerium ions; the concentration of zirconium ions is 10 to 10,000 ppm; the concentration ratio of the copper ions to the zirconium ions is 0.005 to 1 on a mass basis; and the concentration ratio of the other metal ions to the copper ions is 0.1 to 1,000 on a mass basis.

Metal surface treatment liquid for cation electrodeposition coating

A surface-conditioning composition includes a particle of a phosphate of a bivalent or trivalent metal and has a pH value ranging from 3 to 12. The particle has a Dvalue of 3 &#x3bc;m or less. The composition additionally includes (1) at least one metal alkoxide selected from a silane alkoxide, a titanium alkoxide and an aluminum alkoxide and (2) a stabilizing agent.
