The present invention is an organic halogen compound decomposition device which utilizes a plasma, wherein a stable and reliable ignition at operation commencement is possible, and where following ignition, a good plasma form can be maintained and stable operation is possible. A product gas generated through the decomposition reaction of organohalogen compounds and steam is neutralized with an alkali solution and is left to stand for a predetermined period of time, while a neutralization product generated in this neutralization reaction is caused to precipitate in the alkali solution and is then removed. In order to remove the neutralization product completely, a takeout tube is disposed to plunge into a waste gas processing tank and a disk-shaped plate is fastened at the distal end of the takeout tube in parallel to the bottom surface of the waste gas processing tank , while the takeout tube opens in the lower surface of the plate at the center thereof. Thus the solid-liquid separation efficiency of the neutralization product and the alkali solution is improved and the quantity of alkali solution remaining in the neutralization product that is disposed of as waste is decreased.

A scoop-up portion of scoop means is of a flat plate shape so that water is drained by letting a wash rest on the scoop portion during the transferring operation. The wash is scooped surely in raise/drop washing so that the wash is not caught between the inner peripheral surface and one edge of the scoop-up portion. Also, an auxiliary plate is installed on the back surface of transfer portion of the scoop means to prevent the wash from dropping into the preceding vessel in raise/drop washing. Thus, the crumple washing and beat washing are performed efficiently, and cleanliness is improved.

The present invention is directed to a technique which comprises the steps of stopping the rotation of a treating drum in a deodorizing step, introducing the outside air into a treating tank through an upper opening provided in the upper portion of the treating tank or the upper portion of a recovery air duct, simultaneously exhausting a solvent gas from the treating tank through a lower opening provided in the lower portion of the treating tank or a button trap portion so slowly as not to agitate the solvent gas in the treating tank by an exhaust means connected to a solvent recovery device in the condition that the treating drum is stopped, in order to replace the solvent gas in the treating tank with the outside air, and reusing the solvent gas through the solvent recovery device once or several times. In addition, the present invention is further directed to an improvement of the above-mentioned technique. According to the above-mentioned technique of the present invention, a gas throughput which is required to recover a certain amount of the solvent in the treating tank can be noticeably miniaturized and hence it can be manufactured at a lower cost, as compared with conventional ones, and air pollution and the breakage of ozone layer can be prevented. Moreover, the solvent can be saved owing to its recovery and reuse, and occupation space for the solvent recovery device can be also saved.

A method for spreading thin soft rectangular articles such as cloths, unwoven cloths, paper sheets, plastic sheets, etc. (generally called 'rectangular sheets') is disclosed. A part of a first side of a rectangular sheet including one corner of a rectangular sheet is suspended in the air as held nearly horizontally by gripping the corner and another point on the side by grippers which are slidable on a horizontal rail. Accordingly, a second side of the rectangular sheet including the one corner is made to hang down nearly vertically. Then the lowermost end of the second side is gripped by another gripper that is movable vertically along a vertical rail. Except for the one corner, the initially held part of the one side is released, and the rectangular sheet is held with the two adjacent corners at the opposite ends of the second side gripped by two grippers which are movable on the rail. By separating these two grippers on the rail, the rectangular sheet can be spread out to be ready for the next processing step. If necessary, a part of the horizontal rail is tiltable so that the hanging second side can be held precisely vertically for facilitating the gripping of the lowermost end of the second side by the gripper on the vertical rail.
