A folding apparatus of a rotary press which can select collect run or straight run comprises: a fixed pin camwhich performs operations of straight run and collect run; a correction pin camwhich stops in case of straight run, and protrudes/retracts a pin end portion with respect to an outer periphery of a folding cylinder once per two rotations of a folding cylinderin case of collect run; a blade camwhich thrusts a blade of each blade deviceinto a jaw deviceonce per rotation of the folding cylinder in case of straight run, and thrusts the same into the jaw deviceonce per two rotations of the folding cylinder in case of collect run; switching meansfor switching between a drive side connection and a stop side connection of the correction pin cam and the blade cam; and detecting meansfor detecting a start-up timing of the switching means.

Folding apparatus of rotary press

The folding station of a rotary printing press has a folding cylinder on which the printed paper web is cut into sections. Mounted opposite the folding cylinder, a jaw cylinder has cut in its surface several jaw cavities each extending parallel to the jaw cylinder axis for receiving the midpart of the web section as the same is inserted therein by a folding blade on the folding cylinder. Each jaw cavity has mounted therein a series of fixed jaw parts and a series of movable jaw parts, the latter being jointly movable toward and away from the former for engaging and folding the midpart of the web section. The two outmost ones of the movable jaw parts are positioned closer to the fixed jaw parts than are the other, medial movable jaw parts, in order to more firmly engage the margins of the web section without causing ink offset between the contacting surfaces of the image areas of the web section.

There is provided a paper cutting apparatus for a folder, the folder for a web rotary press being provided with a forming roller pair and at least one nipping roller pair on a downstream side of the forming roller pair in a paper passage between a former and a folding cylinder group, and provided with a paper jam detector S for detecting an occurrence of a paper jam at least in the folding cylinder group, including a first cutter A provided so as to be capable of cutting a paper running between the forming roller pair under the former and a nipping roller pair just on the downstream side of the forming roller pair; a second cutter B provided so as to be capable of cutting the paper running between the folding cylinder group and the nipping roller pair just on the upstream side of the folding cylinder group; and control unit D which receives a paper jam signal generated from the paper jam detector S and sends a cutting signal to the first cutter A and the second cutter B.

Paper cutting apparatus for folder

A continuous web of printed paper is cut by a cutting cylinder into discrete sheets on being wrapped around part of a folding cylinder. The folding cylinder has sets of the folding blade in the cavity each aligned parallel to the cylinder axis and all arranged at constant circumferential spacings. Each folding blade is movable radially of the folding cylinder for pushing one sheet of printed paper off the cylinder surface in the middle of the sheet. Disposed opposite the folding cylinder, a jaw cylinder has cavities opening to its surface at constant circumferential spacings, each for receiving the midpart of the sheet being pushed by the folding blade in the cavity. Each cavity has a movable jaw arranged therein for pivotal motion toward and away from a fixed jaw in order to crease the sheet. An indentation is formed in the fixed jaw so as to be in opposed relationship to the insert part of the folding blade on the folding cylinder in the cavity as the folding blade is inserted in the cavity with the sheet.

Cutting and folding mechanism for a web-fed rotary press

A jaw device for rotary-press folding section provided on a jaw cylinder in which the a continuous paper web guided in between a cutting cylinder and a folding cylinder is guided along the outer periphery of the folding cylinder, with the leading edge thereof held by a holding mechanism provided on the folding cylinder and wound around the outer periphery of the folding cylinder by the rotation of the folding cylinder, cut to a predetermined length with a cutting mechanism; the cut paper sheet being guided to an appropriate position along the outer periphery of the folding cylinder; the leading edge of the cut sheet being released from the held state and caused to protrude into the jaw cylinder with an insertion blade, thereby the cut sheet being folded by gripping the insertion blade and the cut sheet caused to protrude by the insertion blade; the folding section jaw device comprising an opening provided on the outer periphery of the jaw cylinder in parallel with the axial line, and a jaw proper comprising a jaw made of a thin elastic material provided on the inner wall end of the opening and a movable plate made of a thin elastic material.

Jaw device for rotary-press folding section

A blanket to be mounted on a blanket cylinder includes a blanket body and two band sheets serving as reinforcing members and attached to corresponding parallel, opposite end portions of the blanket body across a width of the end portions. One of the band sheets is attached only to one end portion of the blanket body and only on a side of the blanket body which comes into contact with the blanket cylinder when the blanket is mounted on the blanket cylinder. The other band sheet is longitudinally folded in two and is attached to the other end portion of the blanket body such that the other end portion is sandwiched therebetween and the other band sheet has a substantially same thickness on each side of the other end portion.

A blanket-mounting mechanism includes a dragging shaft, a rotating device, a correction device, and a deflection suppression device. A dragging-shaft accommodation bore extends axially through a blanket cylinder. A blanket insertion groove extends axially on the outer circumferential surface of the blanket cylinder and extends radially to the dragging-shaft accommodation bore. The dragging shaft has a blanket-end reception groove formed on the outer circumferential surface and adapted to receive one end of a blanket. The dragging shaft is inserted into the dragging-shaft accommodation bore with an appropriate gap maintained therebetween and is supported rotatably. The rotating device is disposed at the side of one end face of the blanket cylinder and is connected to the dragging shaft. The correction device is disposed at the side of the other end face of the blanket cylinder and is able to grip/release the dragging shaft so as to adjust the angular position of the dragging shaft. The deflection suppression device supports the dragging shaft accommodated within the dragging-shaft accommodation bore while permitting the dragging shaft to rotate.
