The present invention provides a dimming panel sequentially including: a first substrate; a liquid crystal layer; and a second substrate, the first substrate sequentially including an insulating substrate, a first electrode, a first insulator layer, and a second electrode, the second electrode including, in a plan view, linear electrodes parallel to each other with slit regions in between, and bridge electrodes each of which is disposed in one of the slit regions and is connecting two adjacent linear electrodes, the bridge electrodes including a first bridge electrode in a first slit region, a second bridge electrode in a second slit region adjacent to the first slit region, and a third bridge electrode in a third slit region adjacent to the second slit region, the first bridge electrode, the second bridge electrode, and the third bridge electrode being discrete from one another.

Dimming panel, production method for dimming panel and liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display panel includes in the following order: a first substrate including pixel electrodes; a liquid crystal layer; and a second substrate including a counter electrode. The liquid crystal display panel includes pixels each including at least four alignment regions that provide different tilt azimuths to the liquid crystal molecules. The four alignment regions are arranged in a longitudinal direction of the pixels. The pixel electrodes are each provided with linear slits. The slits are formed in a region between one pixel edge of each pixel in the longitudinal direction and a center line of the pixel in the transverse direction in each alignment region. The liquid crystal molecules are aligned in a direction substantially perpendicular to the first substrate and the second substrate and at a tilt in the respective tilt azimuth directions with no voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal molecules are at a twist angle of substantially 45&#xb0; or smaller. Upon application of voltage to the liquid crystal layer, the liquid crystal molecules are to be more tilted in the respective tilt azimuth directions and the tilt azimuth of each liquid crystal molecule is a given azimuth in each region in which the slits are formed.

Liquid crystal display panel

In order to achieve a display device that can display a plurality of images and also prevents a lowering of resolution of the images displayed by emitting light in a plurality of different direction from one pixel, a display device, which is a display device that can display at least two images by emitting light in at least two directions from each of a plurality of pixels, includes: a backlight unit, a backlight side substrate, a display side substrate, a MEMS shutter, and a display control unit. The display device can display an image for a first viewpoint and an image for a second viewpoint by the display control unit controlling the MEMS shutter for each of the pixels.

In a pixel circuit, during a period during which an organic EL element is not emitting light, transistors are in an 'on' state and the organic EL element is reversed-biased by a low-level power-supply potential and a reverse-biasing power-supply potential. A reverse-direction voltage determined by a reverse-direction current that depends on the degree to which degradation of the organic EL element has progressed is thus written to a capacitor. A data voltage is then supplied to the capacitor via another capacitor, bringing the drive voltage of a transistor that controls the current that drives the organic EL element to Vsig+Voledr. This makes it possible to minimize decreases in the emission luminance of an electrooptical element such as an organic EL element due to degradation thereof over time.

The transistor then turns off, another transistor turns on, and a compensating current that depends on the reverse-direction voltage flows from another capacitor towards a reverse-biasing power-supply line, causing a drive voltage maintained by the capacitor to change by a compensating voltage change. This makes it possible to minimize decreases in the emission luminance of an electro-optical element such as an organic EL element due to degradation thereof over time.

A lighting device includes light sources arranged at an end, light guide portions arranged along an arrangement direction of the light sources and receiving light from the light sources, and light output portions arranged along a direction crossing the arrangement direction and exiting light from the light guide portions. The light output portions include at least a first light output portion and a second light output portion. The first light output portion is arranged relatively close to the light sources and the second light output portion is arranged relatively farther from the light sources with respect to the first light output portion. The light guide portions include at least a first light guide portion and a second light guide portion, and the first light guide portion is optically connected to the first light output portion and the second light guide portion is optically connected to the second light output portion.

A liquid crystal display device () according to the present invention has a plurality of pixels that are arranged in columns and rows to form a matrix pattern and one color display pixel (P) is comprised of four or any other larger even number of pixels. The liquid crystal display device () of the present invention includes a plurality of source bus lines () which run in a column direction. The even number of pixels that form one color display pixel (P) include larger pixels with a relatively large area and smaller pixels with a relatively small area. Each set of pixels to be supplied with a signal voltage from an associated one of the plurality of source bus lines () has substantially the same total area as any other set of pixels. According to the present invention, in a liquid crystal display device in which a plurality of pixels that forms one color display pixel includes the larger and smaller pixels, generation of display unevenness that runs in the column direction can be minimized.

Liquid crystal display device

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display panel which can prevent an electric short circuit (leakage) between a pair of substrates with no additional production step in the case where a multilayer spacer is used. The present invention is a liquid crystal display panel comprising: a pair of substrates; and a liquid crystal layer between the substrates, wherein a first substrate of the substrates has a support substrate, a plurality of pixel electrodes, transparent colored layers of plural colors overlapping with the pixel electrodes, and a multilayer spacer formed of a stacked body of three or more resin layers including transparent colored layers of plural colors, and a second substrate of the substrates has a supporting substrate and a common electrode.

In a liquid crystal display device which uses a white LED as the light source, in order to avoid/suppress the reduction in the speed of response of the liquid crystal while increasing the color reproducibility and red chromaticity without the use of a special purpose color filter, a band cut filter which absorbs the wavelength component neighboring orange in light that is transmitted is provided between the liquid crystal display and the backlight unit.

An array substrate disclosed herein includes: scanning signal lines (and); data signal lines (X, andY) to each of which a data signal is supplied; a first pixel region column; and a second pixel region column adjacent to the first pixel region column, each of the first and second pixel region columns including pixel regions, wherein: two data signal lines corresponding to the first pixel region column are provided, two data signal lines corresponding to the second pixel region column are provided, a gap between two adjacent data signal lines (andX) is provided, one of the two adjacent data signal lines being corresponding to the first pixel region column, and the other of the two adjacent data signal lines being corresponding to the second pixel region column; and a gap lineis provided within the gap, a Vcom signal being supplied to the gap line. Array substrate, liquid crystal panel, liquid crystal display device, and television receiver

In a liquid crystal display, a first data signal line and a second data signal line are provided for each pixel column. In at least one embodiment, in a case where every two pixels in the pixel column are paired, one of two pixels in each pair is connected with the first data signal line and the other of the two pixels is connected with the second data signal line, two scanning signal lines respectively connected with the two pixels are simultaneously selected during one horizontal scanning period so that signal potentials are written into the two pixels from the first data signal line and the second data signal line, respectively, during each horizontal scanning period, supply of the signal potentials to the first data signal line and the second data signal line is performed after supply of preliminary potentials to the first data signal line and the second data signal line. This allows improving the display quality of a liquid crystal display in which a larger size, higher definition, or higher-speed driving etc. makes full charging of pixels difficult even when simultaneous scanning.

An active matrix substrate includes: pixel regions (L,R, andM) provided in line and column direction; scan signal lines (&#x3b1; and&#x3b2;); data signal lines (Sp, Sq, sp, and sq) crossing the scan signal lines at right angles; a gate insulating film covering the scan signal lines; and an interlayer insulating film covering the data signal lines, two of the data signal lines (Sq and sp) being provided (i) so as to overlap a gap between two of the pixel regions (L andR) which are adjacent to each other in the line direction or (ii) so as to overlap a region which extends along the gap, the interlayer insulating film having a hollow part K so that the hollow part K and a gap between the two of the data signal lines (Sq and sp) overlap each other, and part of the hollow part K and the scan signal lines (&#x3b1; and&#x3b2;) overlap each other via the gate insulating film. The configuration allows an active matrix substrate including two data signal lines provided in a gap between two adjacent pixel regions to fix short circuit without exposing data signal lines or scan signal lines even when two data signal lines short-circuit on scan signal lines due to a residue.

In a thin film transistor (), a gate insulating layer () is formed on a gate electrode () formed on an insulating substrate (). Formed on the gate insulating layer () is a semiconductor layer (). Formed on the semiconductor layer () are a source electrode () and a drain electrode (). A protective layer () covers them, so that the semiconductor layer () is blocked from an atmosphere. The semiconductor layer () (active layer) is made of, e.g., a semiconductor containing polycrystalline ZnO to which, e.g., a group V element is added. This allows practical use of a semiconductor device which has an active layer made of zinc oxide and which includes an protective layer for blocking the active layer from an atmosphere.

An active matrix substrate includes a transistor, a pixel electrode, a drain lead electrode connected with the drain electrode of the transistor, and a contact hole connecting the drain lead electrode and the pixel electrode. A non-electrode through-bore portion is created on the drain lead electrode, and an opening of the contact hole crosses the through-bore portion. As a result, any changes or decreases in the contact area between the drain lead electrode and the pixel electrode may be prevented or reduced significantly, while the open area ratio can be improved.
