A primary modified polymer composed of (1) a hydrogenated polymer obtained by hydrogenating at least one non-hydrogenated polymer selected from the group consisting of polymers comprising conjugated diene monomer units and copolymers comprising conjugated diene monomer units and vinyl aromatic monomer units and (2) groups of a primary modifier having a functional group which are bonded to the polymer (1), which has a specific vinyl aromatic monomer unit content, a specific vinyl aromatic polymer block content, a specific weight-average molecular weight, and a specific degree of hydrogenation of the double bonds of conjugated diene monomer units; a secondary modified polymer obtained by reacting a primary modified polymer composed of (&#x3b2;) a base polymer and (&#x3b3;) groups of a primary modifier having a functional group which are bonded to the polymer (&#x3b2;) with a secondary modifier; and compositions comprising the primary or secondary modified polymer and at least one other component.

The present invention provides a block copolymer or a hydrogenated product thereof excellent in low-temperature shrinkability, natural shrinkability, rigidity and the like, excellent in a balance of physical properties such as blocking resistance, resistance to fusion bonding in hot water, impact resistance and the like, and having a few fish eyes (FE's) caused by gels. Further, the invention provides a heat shrinkable film and a heat shrinkable multilayer film suitable for drink container packaging, cap seals and the like, using such a block copolymer or the hydrogenated product thereof. The invention provides a block copolymer having a weight ratio of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene of 60/40 to 90/10 and a number average molecular weight measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) of 30,000 to 500,000, wherein the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon constituting the block copolymer has a block rate of from 10 to 90% by weight, the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer blocks constituting the block copolymer have a peak molecular weight within the molecular weight range of 5,000 to 30,000, and 40 to 80% by weight of the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer blocks have a molecular weight of 35,000 or less.

Disclosed are dried porous crumbs of a hydrogenated block copolymer which is obtained by hydrogenating a block copolymer comprising (a) at least one polymer block composed mainly of aromatic vinyl monomer units and (b) at least one polymer block composed mainly of conjugated diene monomer units, and which has a molecular weight of 70,000 or more. The dried porous crumbs have a water content of 1% by weight or less and having the capability of absorbing an oil in an amount of 1.0 or more, in terms of the ratio of the weight of an oil, which is absorbed by the dried porous crumbs when the dried porous crumbs are immersed in the oil at 25&#xb0; C. under atmospheric pressure for 1 minute, to the weight of the dried porous crumbs. Also disclosed is a method for producing the same. When the dried porous crumbs are used as a modifier in the production of a molding resin composition from a thermoplastic resin and a liquid additive, such as a softening agent or a silicone oil, a shaped article having an excellent appearance can be produced by molding the molding resin composition.
