An aqueous inorganic zinc-rich coating composition employs zinc powder and a vehicle containing an aqueous solution containing a specific alkali silicate, an ammonium ion, and a halide ion at specific concentrations; a vehicle containing an aqueous solution containing the above ingredients at specific concentrations and additionally an alkali halide at a specific concentration; or a vehicle containing an aqueous solution containing a specific alkali silicate and an alkali halide at specific concentrations, wherein the vehicle and zinc powder are contained at a specific ratio.

The invention provides a method for efficiently producing, in a low temperature region, a thin film or micro-spherules of a single component type or a multi-component type metal oxide glass, wherein an organic metal compound is subjected to hydrolyzation in a reaction liquid consisting of water and an organic solvent, with halogen ions (F , Cl ) as a catalyst in the presence of boron ions (B ), followed by dehydration and condensation, after which a reaction product is vitrified at a temperature of 200&deg; C. or below, thereby obtaining the single component type or multi-component type metal oxide glass film (reaction at a pH value between 5.0 and 4.5), or micro-spherules (reaction at a pH value between 8 and 10). Transparent and homogeneous glass film or micro-spherules, which are excellent in the heat-resistance, moisture-resistance, insulating property, gas-barrier property, and ion-migration preventive property, can be obtained in a normal temperature region.

Method for production of metal oxide glass film at a low temperature

Herein disclosed is a method for manufacturing a base plate for a recording disc, which comprises steps of: subjecting a base plate containing therein SiO.sub.2 -Li.sub.2 O-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 series crystallized glass to crystallizing treatment; then polishing the surface of said base plate; and thereafter subjecting the base plate to etching treatment with use of etching agents having different rates of etching between the crystallized layer and the amorphous layer, and also a base plate for a recording disc which is produced by the method as described above.
