A glass emitting white light in itself, and a light-emitting element and a light-emitting device covered with the glass as stated above are provided. The white light-emitting glass is a glass emitting fluorescence at a region having a wavelength of 380 nm to 750 nm by excitation light with a wavelength of 240 nm to 405 nm, not containing crystal, and containing SnO(where x=1 to 2, typically x=1 or 2), PO, and MnO(where y=1 to 2, typically y=1 or 2). The light-emitting element and the light-emitting device are made up by covering a main surface of a semiconductor light-emitting element with the glass as stated above.

To provide an aluminum magnesium titanate crystal structure which can be used stably in variable high temperatures, because of its excellent heat resistance, thermal shock resistance, high thermal decomposition resistance and high mechanical property, and a process for its production. An aluminum magnesium titanate crystal structure, which is a solid solution wherein at least some of Al atoms in the surface layer of aluminum magnesium titanate crystal represented by the empirical formula MgAlTiO(wherein 0.1&#x2266;x&#x3c;1) are substituted with Si atoms, and which has a thermal expansion coefficient of from &#x2212;6&#xd7;10(1/K) to 6&#xd7;10(1/K) in a range of from 50 to 800&#xb0; C. at a temperature raising rate of 20&#xb0; C./min, and a remaining ratio of aluminum magnesium titanate of at least 50%, when held in an atmosphere of 1,100&#xb0; C. for 300 hours.

Magnesium aluminum titanate crystal structure and method for producing same

The present invention provides a raw material composition for preparing a sintered body of aluminum titanate, the composition comprising (i) 100 parts by weight of a mixture comprising 40 to 50 mol % of TiOand 60 to 50 mol % of AlO, (ii) 1 to 10 parts by weight of an alkali feldspar represented by the formula: (NK)AlSiO(0&#x2266;x&#x2266;1), and (iii) 1 to 10 parts by weight of at least one Mg-containing component selected from the group consisting of a Mg-containing oxide with spinel structure, MgCOand MgO, and a process for preparing a sintered body of aluminum titanate comprising sintering a formed product prepared from the raw material composition at 1300 to 1700&#xb0; C. The present invention provides a process for preparing a sintered body comprising as a basic component aluminum magnesium titanate represented by the composition formula: MgAlTiOwherein the value of x is 0.1&#x2266;x&#x3c;1. The process comprises a step of sintering a formed product from a raw material mixture comprising 100 parts by weight, calculated on an oxide basis, of a mixture comprising a Mg-containing compound, an Al-containing compound and a Ti-containing compound at the same metal component ratio as the metal component ratio of Mg, Al and Ti in the above composition formula, and 1&#x2013;10 parts by weight of an alkali feldspar represented by the composition formula: (NaK)AlSiOwherein the value of y is 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;1. According to the process of the present invention, a sintered body of aluminum magnesium titanate having stability in continuous use at high temperatures and excellent mechanical strength, while maintaining inherently low thermal expansibility of a sintered body of aluminum magnesium titanate, can be obtained.

Honeycomb filter for clarifying exhaust gas and method for manufacture thereof

Provided is a honeycomb filter which includes an aluminum titanate sintered product obtained by a process involving firing at a temperature of 1,250-1,700&#xb0; C. a raw material mixture composed of: 100 wt. % of a first mixture having TiOand AlOin a molar ratio of 40-60/60-40; and 1-10 wt. % of a second mixture composed of: an alkali feldspar according to the formula NaKAlSiO, wherein 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;1; and a component selected from an oxide having a spinel structure composed of Mg and/or MgO, MgO and a precursor compound composed of Mg that is converted to MgO by firing, wherein the honeycomb filter exhibits excellent properties with respect to mechanical strength, thermal decomposition resistance, thermal shock resistance and thermal stability at high and fluctuating temperatures. Also provided is a method and an apparatus for cleaning an exhaust gas by removing solid particles predominantly containing carbon from the exhaust gas with the honeycomb filter. In the production of an organic-inorganic hybrid glassy material using raw materials which are used in a sol-gel process as starting materials, the present invention relates to a process for producing an organic-inorganic hybrid glassy material, which is characterized in that, there is a heating reaction step between a mixing step and a melting step of the starting materials and there is further an aging step after the melting step. In accordance with the present invention, an organic-inorganic hybrid glassy material satisfying both heat resistance as well as airtight property and low-melting characteristic, which has been believed to be very difficult to produce, is now able to be produced in a very shorter period than before.
