A liquid crystal display device with a touch panel includes: pixel electrodes which is applied a electrical potential corresponding to a gradation value in respective pixels; common electrodes that are a plurality of electrodes which extend in one direction; a liquid crystal layer having a liquid crystal composition whose orientation is changed according to an electric field developed by the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes; and detection electrodes that are a plurality of electrodes which extend in another direction different from the one direction, and detect a touch position on the panel. The common electrodes include a first electrode which is applied a detection potential for detecting the touch position on the panel, and a second electrode to which a potential different from the detection potential is applied during a period in which the detection potential is applied.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display controller device and method which provides for a full and/or partial display with good display quality and/or low power consumption based on the scanning period for an active scan line being dependent upon a number of reference clock pulses. Some embodiments of the present invention include one or more of the following features: keeping the frequency substantially constant for different numbers of active scan lines, allowing change of the frequency due to characteristics of the LCD, displaying gradation with near linear effective voltage characteristics, displaying graduation data with lower power, or displaying a partial or full screen in a mobile device, for example, a cell phone.

Liquid crystal display controller

In a display device using an RGB time division drive system in which RGB data to be supplied to display pixels of three colors RGB are subjected to time-division multiplexing and input to a liquid crystal panel unit, (1) data are input to the liquid crystal panel unit alternately in the order of RGB and BGR every line signal, and a selection signal SC which is in the on-state at a break of one line period is kept in the on-state until the next line period. In addition, (2) over a partial non-display period in partial display, selection signals SA, SB and SC are always in the off-state and an equalize signal EQG is in the on-state.

Display device

A display device includes a display panel, a flexible printed circuit, and a holder that holds the display panel and the flexible printed circuit. The flexible printed circuit connects to a top surface of the display panel and is bent in the vicinity of a side surface of the display panel, and a part of the flexible printed circuit is disposed between a back of the display panel and the holder, the holder having an opening or a depression in a vicinity of the side surface of the display panel. The flexible printed circuit deflects so that a portion of the part of the flexible printed circuit board projects into a space in the opening or the depression of the holder, as viewed in section.

A display device displays corrected externally-supplied video signals, and includes plural pixels, a scanning driver and a signal driver which applies display voltages to signal lines coupled to the pixels. The signal driver includes a first converter which converts a format of the externally supplied video signals into a first format, a memory which stores the video signals from the first converter temporarily, a correction circuit which computes correction values based upon the video signals from the first converter and the video signals in the memory and corrects the video signals from the first converter based upon the correction values, and a second converter which converts the first format of the video signals from the correction circuit to a format of the display voltages. The memory stores the correction values also, and the correction circuit corrects the video signals in the memory based upon the correction values in the memory.

Liquid crystal display device with improved response speed

A display driver for outputting gradation voltages corresponding to gradation data from an external device to pixels. The display driver includes a generator for generating a plurality of gradation voltages having a plurality of levels based on a reference voltage, and a selector for selecting at least one gradation voltage corresponding to the gradation data from the plurality of gradation voltages generated by the generator. The gradation data includes multi-bits for each color of red, green and blue, and the generator outputs or stops outputting each gradation voltage according to data for color reduction from the external device. The generator stops outputting at least one gradation voltage that is unnecessary for displaying as a result of the color reduction, when the color of the gradation data is reduced according to the data for color reduction.

Display device and driving circuit for displaying

The present invention provides a technique that is capable of preventing a separation of elements of the display panel of a slim display device in which the bending radius of a flexible printed circuit is small. A flexible printed circuit connects to a first side of the display panel proximate to an end surface of the display panel and is bent in the vicinity of the end surface, and a part of the flexible printed circuit is disposed between the back of a backlight and a holder. The holder has an opening or a depression in the vicinity of an end surface of the backlight corresponding to the end surface of the display panel. The flexible printed circuit has a portion which is deflected so that a portion thereof projects into a space in the opening or the depression in the holder, as viewed in section.

A display apparatus includes a data driver that is common to a main screen and a sub screen, and the data driver applies, to the main screen, a tone voltage corresponding to display data from a CPU, and during a vertical blanking time-period of the main screen, the data driver applies, to the sub screen, a tone voltage corresponding to black data or white data, and also includes a scan driver scans the main screen and scans the sub screen during the vertical blanking time-period of the main screen.

Display apparatus

A frame memorystores the original image data received from a higher-level devicevia an interface. Color reduction processing means receives color reduction rate data through a transfer from an upper-level deviceor manual setting means such as a switch or jumper settings. Based on this color reduction rate data, the number of colors in the gradation data of the original image is reduced, and the color count of the original image is simulated using the reduced color count. Also included are a timing generating circuitand a gradation voltage generating circuit. A gradation voltage selectorperforms a partial halting of driver operations based on the color reduction rate.

The present invention suppresses the increase of consumptive electricity derived from the alternation timing driving of a passive matrix type liquid crystal display device such as an STN system or the like. According to the present invention, the liquid crystal display device which is driven by applying selection voltages to common electrodes during a scanning period of the common electrodes and by applying non-selection voltages during other periods to the common electrodes includes a switching circuit which temporarily short-circuits the common electrode n and the common electrode m during a period shifting from the scanning period of the common electrode n to the scanning period of the common electrode m which succeeds the scanning period of the common electrode n, and makes use of the charge stored in the common electrode n by the application of the selection voltage during the scanning period of the common electrode n for charging the common electrode m.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display includes a scanning voltage driver which applies selective scanning voltages to scanning electrodes of a liquid crystal display panel one group of M (an integer of 2 or greater) adjacent scanning electrodes at a time in accordance with M orthogonal function data. A data voltage driver applies to data electrodes of the liquid crystal display panel data voltages selected from M&plus;1 data voltages in accordance with a coincidence number representing a number of coincidences between values of M display data corresponding to the M adjacent scanning electrodes in a current group of scanning electrodes and values of the M orthogonal function data corresponding to the M adjacent scanning electrodes in the current group. The data voltage driver controls a correction period in accordance with a value of a difference between (1) a coincidence number corresponding to the current group of scanning electrodes and (2) a coincidence number corresponding to a previous group of scanning electrodes, and applies to the data electrode during the correction period a corrected data voltage which is equal to a sum of a correction voltage and one of the M&plus;1 data voltages.
