To provide a fabricating method of an optical communication part in which an optical element is fixed within a hollow holder, including the step of fixing an optical element by holding the optical element in a hollow portion of a holding portion of a metal made holder and calking a portion of the holder; wherein, the step includes calking the holder by heating the holder to a temperature higher than a operating temperature or cooling the holder to a temperature lower than the operating temperature depending on whether or not a thermal expansion coefficient of the holder is larger or smaller than that of the optical element. When the thermal expansion coefficient of the holder is larger than that of the optical element, and a heating temperature in calking is set within the range of 85&deg; C. to 95&deg; C., while when the thermal expansion coefficient of the holder is larger than that of the optical element the cooling temperature of the holder upon the calking is set within the range of &minus;50&deg; C. to &minus;40&deg; C.

Optical communication part and method of fabricating the same

An optical transceiver assembly for use in a bidirectional system includes an optical fiber to which an outgoing optical signal is coupled. To reduce reflections from the end face of the fiber, the end face is beveled at an acute angle .phi.' to the normal to the fiber axis, and the fiber axis is tilted at an acute angle .theta. to the transmission axis. Preferably, .phi.'.apprxeq.2.theta.. In this manner, crosstalk is reduced without significantly sacrificing coupling efficiency.

Bidirectional optical transceiver assembly

Bi-directional and uni-directional optical communication and transmission modules minimize crosstalk during use by diffusing reflected and returned stray light. A bi-directional module includes a transmission optical element for transmitting light into the module, a reception optical element for receiving light in the module, an optical fiber for guiding light to and from the transmission and reception optical elements, respectively, a beam splitter for allotting light received from the transmission optical element and the optical fiber, and a light non-return chamber for receiving and diffusing stray light reflected by the beam splitter from the transmission optical element and the optical fiber. A uni-directional module includes a light non-return chamber for receiving and diffusing return light reflected by a beam splitter from at least one optical device arranged in the module. In other aspects of the invention, a variety of optical modules are provided wherein component parts are either aligned along a central axis of a through-hole of the module, are adjustable to maintain an optimum optical axis for light transmission through the module, or are arranged to mutually correct for the axial shift of light in any given component to minimize the total axial shift of light entering and exiting the module.

Module for optical communication

An optical transceiver assembly for use in a bidirectional system includes a beam splitter to direct an incoming signal to a photodiode. An outgoing signal from a laser diode is partially transmitted and partially reflected by the splitter. The reflected signal, which may reach the photodiode, constitutes crosstalk which is reduced by orienting the polarization direction of the splitter essentially parallel to that of the outgoing signal from the laser diode. In another embodiment, which enhances coupling efficiency, a single element asphere lens is positioned between the laser diode and the splitter.

An optical transceiver assembly for use in a bidirectional system includes a beam splitter to direct an incoming signal to a photodiode. An outgoing signal from a laser diode is partially transmitted and partially reflected by the splitter. The reflected signal, which may reach the photodiode, constitutes crosstalk which is reduced by means of a cavity positioned to receive the reflected signal and an oblique surface within the cavity adapted to prevent much of the reflected signal from reaching the photodiode.
