A support for photographic use comprising a polyester film is disclosed which contains at least one compound of the following formula (I) and at least one quaternary ammonium salt of the following formula (II): ##STR1## a hydroxyl group, a nitro group, an amino group or a hydrogen atom; R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkoxy group, an alkyl group, an aryloxy group, an aralkoxy group, a hydroxyalkyl group, --(OCH.sub.2).sub.m OH (m is an integer or 1 to 4) or ##STR2## B, C and D are not simultaneously at least one member selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a nitro group and an amino group); ##STR3## (wherein R.sub.6, R.sub.7, R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 are each an alkyl group, an aralkyl group or an allyl group; X is an anion; and n represents the number of charges on X).

A process for forming a cyan dye image by using a novel photographic 2-equivalent cyan coupler which is characterized by having a splitt-off group of the below-indicated general formula at the active position of the cyan coupler so that the oxy portion is present on the side of the active position: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 stand for a hydrogen atom or an organic group, provided at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 should be an organic group, is disclosed.

Cyan couplers of the 2-equivalent type having the formula ##STR1## wherein C.sub.p, R.sub.1 -R.sub.6, Z, n, p and q are herein defined are described. These couplers are useful in photography, and photographic materials and developers incorporating these couplers are also described.
