A circuit for a flat panel display, capable of displaying images, is provided. The circuit includes an image storage block for storing the images to be displayed, a display and timing controller block controlling the display operation, an image pixel matrix containing a multitude of rows and columns arranged pixel elements. The circuit also includes one or more controlled row driver blocks, one or more controlled column driver blocks, and a pixel pre-charge mechanism for pre-charging the pixel elements employing a back to back pre-charge operation applied to a row and/or column drive activated pixel element display operation. The back to back pre-charge operation signifies that during every other operating sequence a pre-charge operation is replaced by an activated pixel element display operation.

A system, a circuit and a method are given, to realize a display control and driver interface with graphic display memory, whereby the use of dynamic RAM rather than static RAM for this graphic display memory is new. This has the advantage, that for a given size of display memory (number of bits) the DRAM silicon area is significantly less than that of the SRAM. Said system and circuit are designed in order to be implemented with a very economic number of components, capable to be realized with modern monolithic integrated circuit technologies and implementing the given method. This display controller and driver chip can then be used for all LCD display devices including STN (Super Twisted Nematic), CSTN (Colour STN), TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD's and for OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays.

Display controller with DRAM graphic memory

Liquid crystal display (LCD) systems and related methods to achieve reduced resistance of the connections between the display controller device and MLA common sub-groups or groups of signal lines of the display unit avoiding differences of contrast between adjacent lines of an LCD display unit have been achieved. In a preferred embodiment of a Multiple Line Addressing (MLA) Super Twisted Nematic (STN) LCD driver the lines of the common sub-groups are interlaced alternately from both sides of the display control device to the correspondent sides of the display unit in a way that the uppermost common sub-group is driven from a first side of the display control device, the second uppermost sub-group is driven from the side opposite to said first side, the third uppermost sub-group is driven from said first side again and so on. The number of lines per common sub-group is variable. One advantage of the interlaced scheme invented is that the overall glass routing distance is shorter hence reducing resistance. Furthermore, compared to prior art there is no longer a marked difference in routing distance between adjacent lines, thus avoiding differences of contrast. The interlacing scheme can be used for conventional LCD as well.
