A flame retardant, non-dripping, shape-retaining thermoplastic polyester resin is disclosed comprising (a) a linear polyester, (b) a halogenated aromatic compound, (c) a zirconium compound, preferably in combination with antimony trioxide, and (d) a fibrous reinforcing agent.

A flame retardant polybutyleneterephthalate composition having excellent flame resistance with reduced tendency to drip during combustion, is provided by adding a halogenated diphenylether and a diepoxide compound to a polyester which contains at least 80 mole percent of terephthalic acid based on the total moles of dicarboxylic acid, and at least 80 mole percent 1, 4-butanediol based on the total moles of diol. Decabromodiphenyl is an optional additive.

Flame retardant polyester composition

Flame-retarding polyamide composition having excellent mechanical and flame retardant properties is disclosed. The composition comprises polyamide, about 3 to 40% by weight of melamine on the basis of the polyamide, and about 0.5 to 20% by weight on the basis of the polyamide and about 2 to 75% by weight on the basis of melamine of a compound represented by a compound selected from the group consisting of the following formulas (I) and (II) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are the same or different radicals selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, alicyclic and aromatic radicals having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and from such radicals having a substituent selected from the group consisting of --OH, --COOR' and --CONH.sub.2, wherein R' is aliphatic alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms.

Flame-retarding polyamide composition

A glass fiber reinforced flame retarding polyester composition containing decabromodiphenyl ether and/or decabromodiphenyl together with antimony trioxide wherein the ratio by weight of bromine atom to antimony atom is within the range of 0.15 to 0.29. The composition has excellent durability for thermal degradation and improved coloring properties in shaped form.

Flame retarding polyester composition

This invention relates to a thermoplastic resin composition having reduced flammability which comprises a flammable thermoplastic resin, a flame-retarding agent composed of combined halogenated aromatic compound and an organic compound having a cyanurate or isocyanurate ring structure. The composition has well-balanced physical properties and has an especially good external appearance and elongation together with flame resistance.
