A blood collector comprising a collection container in the form of a tube having a forward end adapted for drawing of blood into the container and an opened rear end, a closure unit adapted for closing the opened rear end of the collection container, and a mechanism including a valving element for allowing passage of air when blood is flowing into said container and preventing passage of air and blood when said container is filled with blood, said valving element of said mechanism including an air passage and a filter member communicating with the air passage, said filter member comprising water insoluble but water-swellable polymeric material and provided at least at the contact portion of the closure member with collected blood. Air contained in the blood collecting space of the collection container is expelled through the valving element by the collected blood which rises to a desired level for expelling air from said space practically completely. As the blood contacts the water insoluble but water-swellable high polymeric material contained in filter member of the valving element, the material swells into gel body to block the air passage in the valving element connecting to outside of the collector. Thus blood analysis may be effected without influences by outside air and air otherwise contained in the blood collecting space.

Blood collector

An apparatus for separating blood is provided with a closed end and a thixotropic gel-like sealant with a specific gravity intermediate between the gravities of serum and clot phases. A cavity is formed on the upper surface of said sealant. The sealant consists essentially of an .alpha.-olefin-dimaleate copolymer having a viscosity from 10,000 to 120,000 c.p. (25.degree. C.), to which a viscosity-specific gravity adjusting agent is added to adjust the specific gravity to 1.035-1.055. The cavity is formed in such a size that diameter of the upper surface is from 0.15 to 0.7 times the inner diameter of the apparatus and its depth is from 0.13 to 0.65 times the thickness of said sealant.

Apparatus for separating blood

A container made of synthetic resin and provided at one portion thereof with at least one tightly closable opening, which container has on a surface thereof a continuous coating having a gas barrier characteristic comprising low permeability to oxygen and carbon dioxide by the plasma treatment reaction of a mixture of a silicon compound having the general formula I with a silicon compound having the general formula II: ##STR1## wherein m=1-5, n=1-5, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkoxy or phenyl or OH.

Container made of synthetic resin and method for manufacture thereof

A porous hollow fiber membrane, comprising a polyolefin hollow fiber membrane of an annular cross section of substantial circle 150 to 300 .mu.m in inside diameter and 10 to 150 .mu.m in wall thickness, said hollow fiber membrane forming on the inner wall side thereof a tight layer of intimately bound fine polyolefin particles and on the outer wall side thereof a porous texture of fine polyolefin particles bound in chains and containing fine pores extended continuously form said inner wall side to said outer wall side.

Hollow fiber membrane and method for manufacture thereof

A medical instrument formed of a wall of flexible vinyl chloride resin and enabled to be flattened is disclosed. In this instrument, the inner wall whose opposed surfaces come into mutual contact when the instrument is flattened is made of a flexible vinyl chloride resin composition containing cross-linked vinyl chloride resin particles and, therefore, enabled to form minute protuberances and depressions in the inner wall surfaces. This instrument is useful as bags for holding medical fluids and blood.

A blood collector includes a cylindrical body having a closed end and an open end, and a hollow body is arranged coaxially at the closed end of the cylindrical body and has a hole communicating with the interior of the cylindrical body. A columnar body is arranged within the cylindrical body to be in tight contact with an inner wall thereof, with a distal end defining a blood collection space with the closed end of the cylindrical body. Further, the columnar body has a hole which allows the blood collection space to communicate with the outside. A freeze-dried blood anticoagulant mass is placed inside the blood collection space to cover an inner surface of the closed end of the cylindrical body and to block the hole of the hollow body. A filter is arranged across the hole of the columnar body. The filter is permeable to gases and impermeable to blood at least before being brought into contact with blood in the collection space.

Medical articles made of a resin composition comprising a polyvinyl chloride and a tetracarboxylic tetraester are provided. As examples of the tetracarboxylic tetraester are mentioned tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenylethertetracarboxylate, tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenylmethanetetracarboxylate, tetra(n-dodecyl) 2,3,3',4'-biphenyl-1,1-ethanetetracarboxylate, tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl-2,2-propanetetracarboxylate and the like. The tetracarboxylic tetraester is incorporated in an amount from 20 to 120, preferably from 30 to 100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polyvinyl chloride. As dissolution and migration to the surface of the article of the plasticizer tetracarboxylic tetraester are low in the medical articles, said medical articles produce no adverse effects upon body fluids such as blood when contacted. Examples of preferred medical articles are blood preservation vessels, catheters and blood transfusion sets.

A medical solution transfusion circuit has a transparent cylindrical pumping body, a hard cap mounted on at least one end of said transparent cylindrical pumping body, and a flexible tube for communicating with said transparent cylindrical pumping body to transport a medical solution. The transparent cylindrical pumping body comprises a propylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer.

Medical solution transfusion circuit

Irradiation-sterilizable medical articles molded from a propylene polymer composition in which stabilizers are incorporated. Said composition comprises from 0.01 to 0.4 part by weight of each of a specific hindered amine and a specific phenol or its phosphite ester compound incorporated per 100 parts by weight of a propylene polymer with a weight-average molecular-weight to number-average molecular-weight ratio of 5 or below. The above-mentioned composition may additionally contain a sorbitol derivative as the nucleating agent. Medical articles produced from said composition by molding, for example, syringes are suitable for irradiation sterilization. Said medical articles when irradiated undergo little reduction in quality of the material and are accompanied by little bleeding or degradation of the incorporated stabilizers and nucleating agent.

A stopper for hermetically sealing the opening of a medical container is made of an injection-moldable polymeric material containing a blend of 30 to 90% by weight of a butyl-based rubber and 70 to 10% by weight of a thermoplastic elastomer.

A syringe includes an outer cylinder, a gasket having at least one part which slidably contacts the inner wall of the cylinder and being made of an elastomer material including a block copolymer having styrene units at both terminal ends, and means for sliding the gasket inside the cylinder. The slidably contacting part is compressed inside the cylinder at a compressiblity C (%) of a predetermined range selected according to a particular inner diameter of the cylinder. The product of the total contact area S (mm.sup.2) at the compressibility C (%) of the contacting part with the inner wall of the cylinder with the compressibility C (%) is about 350 to about 900.

Polyvinyl chloride series resin compositions comprising 100 parts by weight of polyvinyl chloride series resin, 20 to 80 parts by weight of a plasticizer and 0.2 to 7 parts by weight of silicone oil, which minimize the elution of the plasticizer, and a method of manufacturing polyvinyl chloride series resin compositions which is characterized by emulsifying said silicone oil in advance with part of said plasticizer and adding an emulsion thus formed to said resin compositions.
