A first conductor and a second conductor are provided at a diaphragm. The first and second conductors intersect magnetic force lines between north poles and south poles of permanent magnets M which are adjacent to one another. When electricity passes through the conductors, a direction in which a force from the magnetic field acts on the current is substantially orthogonal to a surface of the diaphragm. Therefore, the diaphragm can be oscillated in the direction orthogonal to the diaphragm surface. The conductors have widths of from 1000 &#x3bc;m to 2000 &#x3bc;m. Therefore, relative errors in the widths caused by etching can be greatly reduced compared to the prior art, and etching is easier. Moreover, the conductors are arranged in a zigzag pattern. Because the conductors do not have a coil form, a large number of through-holes is not required as in conventional products.

This invention provides a planar acoustic converting apparatus including a support having a flat plate portion, a diaphragm which has an insulating base film having a liquid crystalline polymer film and being opposed to the flat plate portion of the support and at least one spiral coil provided on one major surface or both major surfaces of the insulating base film, at least one permanent magnet supported by the support and opposing a magnetic pole to the diaphragm, and a holding portion provided to the support and holding the diaphragm such that the diaphragm can vibrate and is positioned apart from the at least one permanent magnet.

Planar acoustic converting apparatus

Permanent magnets m m and m each of which is formed in a flat and rectangular shape are disposed on a yoke with the magnetic pole surfaces facing upwardly so that the magnetic pole surfaces whose polarities are different are disposed alternately. A vibrating diaphragm is disposed on the top surface of the yoke so as to be in parallel with the magnetic pole surfaces of the permanent magnets. Pairs of coils L L and L which are wound in a swirled shape and are disposed at the top and rear surfaces of the vibrating diaphragm are disposed on the vibrating diaphragm so as to correspond to the permanent magnets m and m respectively. Each of the pairs of coils L L and L is wound in a swirled shape so as to be substantially analogous with the external edge of the magnetic pole surface of each of the permanent magnets m m and m The internal periphery of each coil is situated at an area which is outside a position corresponding to the external edge of the magnetic pole surface, and the external peripheral portions of the coils do not overlap with each other. As a result, the pairs of coils L L and L link to only the magnetic fields whose orientations are along the surface of the vibrating diaphragm.
