A sheet feeding device includes a sheet feed stacker and a transport belt disposed along a platen substantially horizontally; a discharge stacker disposed above the sheet feed stacker; and a light-shielding cover member provided between the platen and the sheet feed stacker for blocking light from the platen. The entire device is arranged above the platen, and it is easy to mount and dismount the device relative to the platen. An original is transported from the sheet feed stacker and to the discharge stacker along the platen with little damage.

Document feeder and image reading apparatus with the same

A document feeder includes a frame to be disposed on a platen of a scanner; a sheet feeding stacker, a discharge stacker, and a transporting belt mounted on the frame; a lateral positioning member mounted on the frame for restricting the transporting belt laterally; and a vertical positioning member mounted on the frame for restricting the transportation belt vertically. The lateral positioning member is composed of a projection for abutting against a flange portion provided at a peripheral side of the platen to laterally restrict a position of the transporting belt. The vertical positioning member is composed of a projection for abutting against a surface of the platen to vertically restrict the position of the transporting belt.

Recording units including a printer for printing information data on at least one surface of a recording medium card are arranged vertically one over another in an information card producing device. Card turning portions are disposed confronting the respective recording units, so that the card can be transferred between the card turning portions and the recording units and turned over, thereby recording the desired information data on one or both of the surface of the card. The recording unit includes a magnetic encoder and/or IC memory reader/writer and has a function of verifying the information data written to the card so as to send out the card to a card discharge port when adequately recorded or to a card reject port when a write error is found.

Information card producing device

A thermal transfer printing device for printing photorealistic color images with dye-sublimation inks of different colors and two-gradation images such as character and bar code patterns with a monochrome thermal wax-transfer ink respectively in separated printing sections. The bar code pattern is printed in the widthwise direction of the code bars with heating energy smaller than that for printing the bar code pattern in the lengthwise direction of the bars, thus increasing the reproductivity in producing the bar code pattern. Deviations in specific resistance among heating elements of a thermal print head can be compensated by multiplying image data energy to be supplied to the heating elements by ratios of the specific resistance of the respective heating elements to the maximum resistance in the heating elements, thus producing high-quality images on the recording medium.

Thermal transfer printing device and method

A thermal transfer printer for printing images and patterns on a card with thermally transferable color inks while moving the card back and forth in such a state that the card is held and urged against a thermal print head through an ink ribbon by capstan and platen rollers. In printing, the card is first forwarded over a print-starting point, and then, reversed until the leading end thereof arrives at an overrun stop point prescribed behind the print starting point, and thereupon, moved forward until the leading end of the card is positioned at the print-starting point to start printing. Thus, mechanical clearance giving rise to backlash essentially possessed of mechanical elements can be completely eliminated, thereby enabling remarkably high-quality color images to be produced.

Thermal transfer card printing device and method

A sheet feeding device for feding stacked sheets one by one incorporates therein a sheet separator in which a friction pad touching a sheet feeding roller is rocked by one or more sheets passing through between the sheet feeding roller and friction pad, thereby to successfully separate the overlapping sheets. The rocking movement of the friction pad is fulfilled, for example, by providing the pad on its leading end within an uplift protrusion which is forced up by the sheet being contacted therewith. By the action of the friction pad thus rocked, the so-called double-feed phenomenon can be completely prevented.
