A valve rotation includes: a first sheet member that extends toward a surrounding of a valve stem under a condition that a rotation action of the first sheet member is suppressed with respect to a cylinder head, and a second sheet member that faces to the first sheet member, that is capable of rotating with respect to the first sheet member and is subjected to a load for opening the valve; a force conversion structure that converts the load for opening the valve applied to the second sheet member into a rotation force.

A poppet valve includes a head and a stem, which extends from the head. At least a part of the back of the head is covered by a cover with a heat insulating space provided in between. A support portion is provided between the cover and the head to support the cover on the head with rubber member having a lower heat conductivity than that of the head between the cover and the head.

A hydraulic control device is equipped with an oil jet that injects oil to a piston, an oil gallery through which oil injected by the oil jet and oil supplied to a lubrication part of an engine pass, an oil pump that pumps oil to the oil gallery, and a switching valve that is provided on an oil jet passage connecting the oil gallery and the oil jet together and leads oil supplied from the oil gallery to either the oil jet or an oil pan disposed at an upstream side of the oil pump. An ECU controls the switching valve on the basis of an engine speed and an engine cooling water temperature.

Control device for internal combustion engine

An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided. The apparatus includes a first group of cylinders; a second group of cylinders; an exhaust passage having a first branch passage connected to the first group of cylinders and a second branch passage connected to the second group of cylinders; a communication passage which connects the first branch passage and the second branch passage with each other; an exhaust gas purifying device provided in the exhaust passage and located downstream from a position connected to the communication passage; and an exhaust flow control device for controlling flow of exhaust gas such that exhaust gas emitted from one of the first group of cylinders and the second group of cylinders is introduced into the branch passage connected to the other group of cylinders through the communication passage when a predetermined exhaust flow switching condition is established, wherein a flow-passage cross section of the communication passage is smaller than those of the first branch passage and the second branch passage, and the communication passage is provided with a fuel addition valve for adding fuel to exhaust gas from upstream of the exhaust gas purifying device.

Exhaust gas purifying apparatus for internal combustion engine

Carbon-containing particulates like soot included in an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine are collected by means of a heat-resistant filter medium. The filter medium dispersedly collects hydrocarbon compounds and the carbon-containing particulates included in the exhaust gas. Even when the exhaust gas has a lower temperature than the combustible temperature of the carbon-containing particulates, such dispersed collection ensures start of a preliminary oxidation reaction of the collected hydrocarbon compounds with oxygen included in the exhaust gas. The collected hydrocarbon compounds and the collected carbon-containing particulates are then subjected to combustion with the exhaust gas having a filter inflow temperature lower than the combustible temperature of the carbon-containing particulates by utilizing the reaction heat and active species produced by the reaction. This technique thus simply but securely regulates and reduces the carbon-containing particulates included in the exhaust gas.

Exhaust emission control filter and method of controlling exhaust emission

A first heat-resistant filter medium is disposed in an exhaust pathway of an internal combustion engine. The first heat-resistant filter medium traps hydrocarbon compounds and carbon-containing particulates included in a flow of exhaust gas in a dispersive manner to bring the respective particulates and hydrocarbon compounds in contact with oxygen included in the exhaust gas. The trapped hydrocarbon compounds and the trapped carbon-containing particulates are subjected to combustion with the exhaust gas having a filter inflow temperature lower than a combustible temperature of the carbon-containing particulates. A second heat-resistant filter medium is further disposed downstream of the first heat-resistant filter medium to trap the remaining carbon-containing particulates, which have not been trapped by the first heat-resistant filter medium but have passed through the first heat-resistant filter medium. This arrangement desirably enhances the reduction rate of the particulates.

Exhaust emission control device and method of controlling exhaust emission

An internal combustion engine with a dual turbocharger system includes an air bypass conduit connecting a downstream portion of a first turbocharger compressor with an upstream portion of a second turbocharger compressor so that the length of the air bypass conduit is relatively long. When a throttle is rapidly closed, an air bypass valve installed in the air bypass conduit is opened and the compressed air downstream of the throttle valve is returned to the upstream of the turbocharger compressor to suppress occurrence of a surging at the turbocharger compressor. Since the air bypass conduit is relatively long, the compressed and circulated air is effectively cooled when flowing through the air bypass conduit and melting of an impeller of the turbocharger compressor is prevented.

Internal combustion engine with a dual turbocharger system

An evaporated fuel discharge suppressing apparatus includes a main purge conduit and a bypass purge conduit. The main purge conduit connects a canister and an intake conduit of an engine downstream of a throttle valve, and a purge control solenoid valve is installed in the main purge conduit. The bypass purge conduit bypasses the purge control solenoid valve. Even if the purge control solenoid valve sticks in a closed position, evaporated fuel adsorbed by the canister can flow into the intake conduit of the engine through the bypass purge conduit so that the evaporated fuel in the canister is not discharged into the atmosphere.

An internal combustion engine with a dual turbocharger system which includes an engine, a first and a second turbocharger arranged in parallel with each other, an intake switching valve located downstream of a compressor of the second turbocharger, an exhaust switching valve located downstream of a turbine of the second turbocharger. The engine operation is changed between a 'one-turbocharger-operation' wherein only the first turbocharger is operated and a 'two-turbocharger-operation' wherein both the first turbocharger and the second turbocharger are operated. Change from the 'one-turbocharger-operation' to the 'two-turbocharger-operation' is performed on the basis of an intake air quantity, and change from the 'two-turbocharger-operation' to the 'one-turbocharger-operation' is performed on the basis of an engine speed. This type of change suppresses a torque shock at shift changing during acceleration and improves the drive feeling.

An internal combustion engine with a dual turbocharger system includes an engine, a first turbocharger and a second turbocharger arranged in parallel with each other, an intake switching valve located downstream of a compressor of the second turbocharger, and an exhaust switching valve located downstream of a turbine of the second turbocharger. At large intake air quantities, both turbochargers are operated, while at small to medium intake air quantities only the first turbocharger is operated. At 'one-turbocharger-operation', when the engine load is low, the intake switching valve is opened, while the exhaust switching valve is maintained closed. Thus, at small to medium intake air quantities and low engine loads, the intake flow can be introduced through both the compressor of the first turbocharger and the compressor of the second turbocharger. As a result, flow resistance is decreased and acceleration response from low engine loads is improved.

An internal combustion engine with a dual turbocharger system includes a first turbocharger operated through an entire intake air quantity, a second turbocharger operated only at large intake air quantities, an exhaust bypass conduit bypassing a turbine of the second turbocharger, an exhaust bypass valve installed in the exhaust bypass conduit, and exhaust bypass valve opening control means for controlling at least one of a time to begin opening and a speed of opening the exhaust bypass valve. The exhaust bypass valve is opened before the turbocharger operation is switched from a 'one-turbocharger-operation' to a 'two-turbocharger-operation' so that the second turbocharger is run-up and a smooth transition can be obtained. The exhaust bypass valve begins to open at a lower charging pressure when a transmission gear position is low than when the gear position is high, a period of time for running-up the second turbocharger is lengthened so that the second turbocharger is sufficiently run-up and a torque shock at the transition form 'one-turbocharger-operation' to 'two-turbocharger-operation' is minimized.

The exhaust bypass valve is opened on the basis of a charging pressure at low engine speeds and is opened on the basis of an intake air quantity at high engine speeds. As a result of controlling the exhaust bypass valve in this fashion, a smooth transition from a 'one-turbocharger-operation' to a 'two-turbocharger-operation' can be obtained throughout the entire range of engine speeds.

An internal combustion engine with a dual turbocharger system includes a first turbocharger and a second turbocharger arranged in parallel with each other. An exhaust switching valve is installed in an exhaust conduit downstream of a turbine of the second turbocharger and is actuated by a single diaphragm actuator. An exhaust bypass conduit is provided so as to bypass the exhaust switching valve, and an exhaust bypass valve is installed in the exhaust bypass conduit. Before the operation is changed from 'one-turbocharger-operation' to 'two-turbocharger-operation', the exhaust bypass valve is opened before the exhaust switching valve is opened, to suppress a shock which may occur at the transition from the 'one-turbocharger-operation' to 'two-turbocharger-operation'.
