An intermittently coupled-type optical fiber ribbon includes a plurality of optical fibers arranged in parallel and intermittently coupling portions formed by coupling parts between the adjacent optical fibers with a resin. In the coupling portions, the resin is provided on one side surface and the other side surface of the optical fiber ribbon. When an average of maximum values of thicknesses TF of the coupling portions on the one side surface is set as TFand an outer diameter of each optical fiber is set as D, D/4≤TF≤D/2. When an average of maximum values of thicknesses TB of the coupling portions on the other side surface is set as TB, TB<TF.

Optical fiber ribbon and sub-tape-type optical fiber ribbon

Provided is an intermittently coupled optical fiber ribbon in which a bonded portion in which adjacent optical fibers are bonded by an adhesive resin and a non-bonded portion are intermittently provided in a longitudinal direction. The bonded portion is provided on one side of the optical fiber ribbon. A part of the bonded portion protrudes further than a tangent line passing through surfaces of the adjacent optical fibers on the one side. In the longitudinal direction, at least one of longitudinal end portions of the bonded portion has a larger protrusion height than a central portion of the bonded portion. The adhesive resin has a composite elastic modulus of 0.5 GPa or more and 6.0 or less at 23° C.

Optical fiber ribbon

An optical fiber ribbon is disclosed. The optical fiber ribbon includes first and second optical fibers arranged in parallel, and at least one coupling member made of a resin material. The coupling member couples the first and second optical fibers by adhering the first and second optical fibers each other intermittently in a longitudinal direction of the first and second optical fibers. A breaking elongation of the resin material constituting the coupling member is equal to or more than 200% and equal to or less than 500%.

The separable optical fiber ribbon in accordance with the present invention is an optical fiber ribbon in which a plurality of colored optical fibers arranged in parallel are coated with a collective coating resin so as to be integrated into an optical fiber ribbon, and a plurality of such optical fiber ribbons are arranged in parallel and coated with a binding resin; wherein the binding resin is obtained by curing a UV-curable resin composition satisfying the condition represented by the following expression (1):1.0&#xd7;10&#x2266;(/100M)&#x2266;4.0&#xd7;10&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)where W is the compounding ratio [wt %] of a urethane acrylate compound contained in the resin composition, N is the number of urethane groups in one molecule of the urethane acrylate compound, and Mis the average molecular weight of the urethane acrylate compound.

Split type optical fiber tape core

In a method of making a ribbon type coated optical fiber comprising the step of inserting a plurality of optical fibers flatly arranged parallel to each other through a die orifice so as to collectively coat the optical fibers with a coating resin the ratio W/H of a clearance W in the width direction between the inner surface of the die orifice and the outer surface of the optical fibers to a clearance H in the thickness direction therebetween is set within the range of 1.0 to 2.5.

Method of producing tape type optical fiber core wire

In a split type ribbon optical fiber core cable capable of being split into cables, there are a plurality of ribbon optical fiber core cable units, each of which are constituted by a plurality of colored optical fiber core cables arranged in a row; a coating resin of an ultraviolet curable resin wholly coats the plurality of colored optical fiber core cables; and a bonding resin of an ultraviolet curable resin bonds the ribbon optical fiber core cable units arranged in a row. In this cable, an adhesion strength between the coating resin and the bonding resin is in the range of 1 to 100 g/cm. Further, the bonding resin after curing has a Young's modulus of from 5 to 100 kg/mm.sup.2. The bonding resin after curing has an elongation coefficient of from 5 to 80%.

Split type ribbon optical fiber core cable

An optical fiber ribbon is manufactured under a condition where, assuming that the optical fiber ribbon has a thickness of 2d (mm), a guide roller has a diameter of 2R (mm), and a period of time till the optical fiber ribbon comes into contact with the guide roller after leaving an ultraviolet irradiation apparatus is t (ms), a relationship of d/�(R+d).times.t!&lt;0.2 is satisfied. Accordingly, no damages are imparted to the optical fiber ribbon, and no micro-bendings occur in its coated optical fibers, whereby the transmission characteristic can be prevented from deteriorating.

Method of making optical fiber ribbon

In a method for producing an optical fiber ribbon, a plurality of coated optical fibers is fed out so that the plurality of coated optical fibers are arranged in a plane in a concentrator. A ribbon matrix composed of ultraviolet-curing resin is applied onto the plurality of coated optical fibers in a coater. Ultraviolet rays is radiated to cure the ribbon matrix. The plurality of coated optical fibers are arranged at intervals in a plane in the concentrator.
