The magnetic material dispersion layer has a gas introduction face for introducing gas into the inside thereof, and the magnetic material dispersion layer is preferably a layer where a magnetic material is dispersed in a porous carbon membrane and can be used as a substrate for a metal-air battery positive electrode. More preferably, the selectively oxygen-permeable substrate has the magnetic material dispersion layer and a porous substrate. A selectively oxygen-permeable substrate can selectively introduce oxygen in the air and have high durability against an electrolytic solution.

There is provided a zeolite membrane which is thinner than a conventional membrane and which has improved permeability and a method for manufacturing the zeolite membrane. The method includes a surface layer forming step for forming a surface layer by attaching a low polar polymer on a first surface of a porous substrate to cover the surface, a filling step for filling a masking polymer into pores in the porous substrate from a surface different from the first surface of the porous substrate up to the surface layer by impregnating the porous substrate with the masking polymer and solidifying the masking polymer, and a surface layer removing step for removing the surface layer. After the surface layer removing step, a zeolite membrane is formed on the first surface of the porous substrate.

A method is provided for producing a DDR type zeolite membrane, including a membrane formation step of immersing a porous substrate having a DDR type zeolite seed crystal adhered thereon, in a raw material solution containing 1-adamantaneamine, silica (SiO) and water, and conducting a hydrothermal synthesis of DDR type zeolite to form a 1-adamantaneamine-containing DDR type zeolite membrane on the porous substrate to produce a precursor of DDR type zeolite membrane-containing body, and a burning step of heating the precursor at 400&#xb0; C. or above and at 550&#xb0; C. or below to burn and remove the 1-adamantaneamine contained in the DDR type zeolite membrane.

A method for manufacturing a DDR zeolite membrane element including the steps of: immersing a porous substrate in a raw material solution, forming a DDR zeolite membrane containing 1-adamanthanamine on a surface of the porous substrate by subjecting a DDR zeolite to hydrothermal synthesis in the presence of DDR zeolite seed crystals, applying a glass paste onto the surface of the porous substrate so as to contact the membrane, and heating the membrane at 500 to 800&#xb0; C., thereby burning away the 1-adamanthanamine contained in the membrane and melting the glass paste to form a membrane-like glass seal contacting the membrane on the surface of the porous substrate. The method for manufacturing a DDR zeolite membrane element can inhibit the permeation of the DDR zeolite membrane from being hindered in a contact portion between the membrane and the glass seal and inhibit poor seal of the glass seal.

A process for producing a zeolite membrane comprising a seed crystal forming step of placing, in a pressure-resistant vessel, a seeding sol containing silica, water and a structure-directing agent and a support in a state that the support is immersed in the seeding sol and heating the heat-resistant vessel to form a zeolite seed crystal on the surface of the support, and a membrane formation step of allowing the zeolite seed crystal to grow to form a zeolite membrane on the surface of the support. In the seed crystal forming step, the molar ratio of water/silica in the seeding sol is set 10 to 50 and the heating of the pressure-resistant vessel is conducted at 90 to 130&#xb0; C. The crystal c-axis of the present zeolite membrane is oriented in a direction vertical to the surface of the support and its thickness is uniform.

In one aspect, there is provided a method for producing a zeolite layered composite, comprising layering a template-containing zeolite membrane having a composition the same as or similar to that of a zeolite shaped body of a completely crystallized zeolite composed of tetrapropylammonium ion (TPA) and silica sol in a mixing ratio (TPA/SiO) of 0.015 to 0.08 by mole and containing a template therein on the zeolite shaped body, and simultaneously removing the template from the zeolite membrane and the zeolite shaped body by calcining the resulting layered product to obtain a zeolite layered composite comprising the zeolite shaped body and the zeolite membrane layered thereon.

A gas separator is provided, including a porous substrate made of a first ceramic and a gas-separating layer containing zeolite disposed on the surface of the porous substrate. A laminated zeolite composite is provided, including a MFI membrane constituted by a MFI type zeolite having a SiO/AlO(molar ratio) of 40 to 100, and a porous substrate constituted by a MFI type zeolite having a SiO/AlO(molar ratio) of 20 to 400, wherein the MFI membrane is formed on the porous substrate. The composite has high separation characteristics and high permeability.
