In a double row rolling bearing for supporting a pinion shaft, an outer ring is fixed to an inner peripheral surface of an annular wall (case) with its axis disposed horizontally, and an inner ring assembly is fitted on a pinion shaft, and is inserted, together with the pinion shaft, horizontally into the outer ring through a larger-diameter opening of the outer ring, and is mounted in the outer ring. A larger-diameter cage has a drop limitation portion for limiting the vertically-downward movement of the larger-diameter case.

The large diameter cage has an asymmetric shape, a diameter (discharge diameter) of which close to an opening is larger than a diameter (inflow diameter) close to the small diameter cage, and the small diameter cage has a symmetric shape, in which a diameter (inflow diameter) of which close to an opening is equal to a diameter (discharge diameter) close to the large diameter cage.

In a bearing device, a double row rolling bearing for supporting a pinion gear-side portion of a pinion shaft on a case (annular wall) is formed by a tandem-type double row angular contact ball bearing. A first row of balls having a larger pitch circle diameter are disposed between inner and outer rings of the double row angular contact ball bearing at a region near to the pinion gear, and a second row of balls having a smaller pitch circle diameter are disposed between the inner and outer rings at a region remote from the pinion gear. A bearing internal space is divided into a first bearing internal space containing the first ball row and open toward the pinion gear and a second bearing internal space containing the second ball row and sealed by partition walls formed respectively by bearing seals, lubricating grease being sealed in the second bearing internal space.

A ball bearing with double raceway rotatably supports a pinion shaft having a pinion gear on its one end. The present invention is directed to a grease for a rolling bearing containing poly-&agr;-olefin synthetic oil or diphenyl ether synthetic oil, a diurea thickening agent, and an organic antimony compound or an organic molybdenum compound. The present invention is also directed to a rolling bearing in which the grease for a rolling bearing is sealed. The organic antimony compound or the organic molybdenum compound reacts with a metal composing inner and outer bearing rings and a rolling element to form a compound film contributing to the reduction of the force in the tangential direction on a raceway surface of the bearing rings and a surface of the rolling element, thereby preventing an excessively large force in the tangential direction under high-speed rotation. This enables to lengthen the life of the rolling bearing used under particularly severe conditions such as high temperature, high-speed rotation and high road.

Grease for rolling bearing and grease-sealed rolling bearing

A bearing steel having long rolling life comprising, by weight, 0.65 to 0.90% of C, 0.15 to 0.50% of Si, 0.15 to 1.0% of Mn and 2.0 to 5.0% of Cr, and the balance of Fe. Austenite grain size can be prevented from becoming coarser to make hardening in high temperature possible by further adding one or more of 0.0090 to 0.0200% of N, 0.010 to 0.050% of Al and 0.005 to 0.500% of Nb as optional elements to the steel. Further, rolling fatigue life can be improved by further adding one or more of 0.20 to 0.50% of Ni, 0.10 to 2.00% Of Mo and 0.05 to 1.00% of V as optional elements, and machinability can be improved by further adding one or more of 0.02 to 0.05% of S, 0.005 to 0.10% of rare earth elements, 0.02 to 0.30% of Pb, 0.0005 to 0.0100% of Ca, 0.001 to 0.200% of Bi, 0.005 to 0.20% of Se and 0.005 to 0.100% of Te in the steel as optional elements.
