Terminal devices and a method of transferring sets of transmission document information in a network system between terminal devices such as portable devices which can be grouped together into a plurality of different groups is provided. A terminal device can store capability information relative to a specific type of data that can be received and outputted. The terminal device can receive an inquiry from another terminal device as to the capability information and can transmit the capability information when appropriate to the inquiring terminal device. Various types of capability information can be stored, depending upon the particular capabilities of the terminal device such as picture data, audio data and character data to enable the terminal device to be an e-mail terminal.

A digital broadcasting system includes an authoring apparatus and a transmission apparatus. The authoring apparatus generates event information, which defines an event message that should be transmitted immediately after an operator's instruction to transmit the event message is received, and adds the event information to a content. The authoring apparatus then extracts the event information from the content by referring to tag information and transfers the extracted event information to the transmission apparatus. The transmission apparatus stores the event message defined by the event information transferred from the authoring apparatus. According to an operator's instruction to transmit the event message, the transmission apparatus issues the event message, and multiplexes and transmits the issued event message and the content.

A data broadcast content generation system stores body data for displaying a body page, a plurality of sets of part data each being composed of display element data for determining a display element and attached data for displaying an attached page, and schedule information which associates each broadcast data slot with a set of part data. For each broadcast time slot, the body data, display element data of the set of part data, and attached data of the set of part data are related to each other, so that a display element determined by the display element data will be displayed in the body page and a link destination of the display element will be an attached page displayed using the attached data.
