A switch assembly () comprises a push-button section () and a push-button body () as an operation transmitting member, an LED box () and a contact-making contact () as a direct functioning member, and a communication-function incorporating contact (communications contact) () as an information input/output functioning member, as permitting these components to be connected with each other. Therefore, the switch assembly can respond to an operation given to the push-button body () by causing the contact-making contact () to provide an output for switching between a conductive state and a non-conductive state and by causing the communications contact () to output an information signal to a network.

Electromechanical switching device and emergency shut-off and communication system utilizing same

In a plastic identifying apparatus ( ), a reference light (L ) and a detecting light (L ), each having a predetermined wavelength, are irradiated to an object to be identified ( ), and the transmitted lights of the reference light (L ) and detecting light (L ) are received. A detecting value expressing the quantity of light received of the detecting light (L ) is divided by a reference value expressing the quantity of light received of the reference light (L ), to obtain a computed value, based on which performed is identification of plastic forming the object to be identified . The wavelength of the reference light (L ) is in a wavelength band (hereat, 1550 nm) in which the light absorptances of all the types of plastics are of the lowest level, and the wavelength of the detecting light (L ) is in a wavelength region (hereat, in the range of 1700 to 1760 run) in which the absorption wavelength bands of many plastics except for PET, such as HDPE, are present.

Thus, a switch operation can be performed while recognizing functions of the switch operating means (CSW1) and the switch operating means (CSW1) having the stroke feeling and click feeling of a mechanical switch so that an operating environment having excellent operability and implementing reliable input can be obtained.

A push-button switch provided with a hollow push button, a case supporting it, and a switching mechanism having a first contact disposed within the case and a second contact disposed opposite to the first contact, with one of its ends being inserted into a hole of the push button. Within a hole formed in an inserted section of the switching mechanism, a slide block is provided slidably in a direction crossing the direction in which the push button is pushed. A slope capable of engaging with a slope of the hole of the push button is formed on the slide block. A coil spring (return spring) for energizing a shaft of the switching mechanism so as to abut the push button is provided on the bottom of the case. This configuration enables the push button to take up a first OFF state, an ON state and a second OFF state in order of depression.

A display unit with touch panel includes a press detection switch for detecting a press on a touch panel at a pressure exceeding a predetermined level so as to output a press detection signal, a driving-signal generating circuit responding to the press detection signal to generate a driving signal, a driving portion actuated by the driving signal to drive the touch panel into displacement thereby providing an operator with a tactile feedback, and an AND circuit for outputting an AND signal upon receipt of both of a coincidence detection signal from a coincidence detecting circuit and the press detection signal from the press detecting switch, and a gate circuit for inhibiting a passage of the operated-position signal from the operated-position detecting circuit when the AND signal from the AND circuit is not supplied and permitting the passage of the operated-position signal when the AND signal from the AND circuit is supplied. The display unit with touch panel ensures the prevention of operation errors caused by the operator merely sliding his finger on the touch panel or accidentally touching the touch panel.

An analog transmission system for transmitting a multi-channel analog signal including plural carrier signals having different frequencies, comprises: a laser unit responsive to the multi-channel analog signal for emitting laser light signal intensity-modulated by the multi-channel analog signal, the laser unit having an oscillation wavelength W1; an optical fiber amplifier for amplifying the laser light signal with a peak gain at a wavelength W2; an optical fiber for transmitting the amplified laser light; and an optical receiver for receiving the transmitted laser light and for converting the received laser light into an electric signal as an output. In this system, a total distortion characteristic of the laser unit is compensated by distortions developed in the optical fiber amplifier.

Analog optical transmission system

In an optical transmission system for transmitting a video signal by transmitting a laser light modulated with a video signal, through an optical fiber; and for receiving and photoelectrically converting the received laser light, a pilot signal is added to the video signal by a summing amplifier. A frequency of the pilot signal is smaller than a band width of the laser light, so that peak level of interference noise developed by multi-reflection at both ends of the optical fiber is decreased considerably. Moreover, in an optical transmission system for transmitting and receiving a video signal by modulating a laser light with the video signal through an optical fiber; and for receiving and photoelectrically converting the received laser light, a polarizing control element is provided in the optical fiber by coiling the optical fiber, so that a signal laser light transmitted without multi-reflection has different retardation from a signal laser light with multi-reflection, so that interference noise is reduced. Similarly, an optical fiber amplifier also employs the polarizing control element to reduce the adverse effect caused by the interference noise.

Analog optical transmission system and optical fiber amplifier

The effective rate of deactivation from the terminal state to the ground state of a rare earth ion doped optical material in a four-level amplifying or lasing scheme may be increased greatly by doping the optical material with two rare earth ions, an activator and a deactivator. Energy transfer occurs between the terminal state in the activator ion and the deactivator ion. The transition from the deactivator to the ground state occurs via phonon emission. By increasing the deactivation rate, the efficiency of the laser and the amplifier is increased.

Rare earth ion doped optical element

A core of a fluorozirconate optical fiber is doped with rare earth ions, namely trivalent Dy ions. The Dy ion makes an absorption transition with excitation light generated by an 800 nm semiconductor laser module. Then the Dy ion undergoes transitions, namely a nonradiative transition involving phonon emission, a transition to a metastable excited level, and a radiative transition wherein radiation corresponding to the 1.28 .mu.m to 1.35 .mu.m range occurs, thereafter returning to its ground state level. The Dy ion having an electrovalence of three can be pumped with a high-output 800 nm semiconductor laser module and is not subject to saturation at a lower energy level of population inversion. Using an optical fiber of the invention, a higher gain is obtained in the region of 1.3 .mu.m telecommunications window.

By using a polarization controller, a semiconductor laser apparatus oscillating in the transverse magnetic mode in mode-locked state is realized, and a short optical pulse is generated. By coupling this mode-locked semiconductor laser to a wavelength conversion element, a second harmonic wave is generated, and an even shorter optical pulse is obtained at a higher power.
