An IC card includes an integrated circuit composed of a transmitter/receiver, a processor, a memory, and a display controller, a display, and control switches for successively switching data displayed on the display. Desired data stored in the memory can be displayed on the display by a command delivered through the transmitter/receiver or by actuation of the control switches. An IC card reader for reading the IC card includes signal transmitting and receiving circuits for transmitting signals to and receiving signals from the IC card, and a control unit for displaying the stored data on the display of the IC card in dependance upon the processed results.

An automatic bank note depositing and dispensing machine includes a first detector for detecting when the number of bank notes in a container is smaller than a first prescribed number, a second detector for detecting when the number of bank notes in the container is larger than a second prescribed number, a bank note transfer assembly for delivering bank notes to and receiving bank notes from a fixed or self-propelled external delivery unit in response to output signals from the first and second detectors, a first feeder for receiving bank notes via the bank note transfer assembly from the external delivery unit when the number of bank notes in the container is detected by the first detector as being smaller than the first prescribed number, and for feeding the received bank notes to the bank note container, and a second feeder for feeding bank notes via the bank note transfer assembly from the bank note container to the external delivery unit when the number of bank notes in the container is detected by the second detector as being larger than the second prescribed number.

The present invention relates to a read and/or write apparatus for ID cards, wherein a magnetic read head for reading at least a magnetic stripe and a magnetic write head are disposed along a running passage for identification cards (hereinafter referred to as 'ID cards') for use with an automatic teller system, a credit card system or other various account maintenance systems. Also, connecting member to be connected to a set of connecting terminals of an integrated circuit built in an ID card is provided. The apparatus provides for the reading and/or writing on three kinds of ID cards, that is, an ID card having at least a magnetic stripe, an ID card having at least a magnetic stripe and an integrated circuit built therein and an ID card having at least an integrated circuit built therein but having no magnetic stripe.

The present invention relates to an automatic transaction system for performing transactions with an automatic transaction apparatus, by using identification cards (hereinafter referred to as 'ID cards') for an automatic teller system, a credit card system or other various maintenance systems. At least one integrated circuit (hereinafter referred to as 'IC') is built in an ID card, a program for practicing such processings as editing, ciphering, operation and checking of data necessary for determining whether or not a transaction should be made is stored in the IC, a center apparatus is connected to the automatic transaction apparatus, transaction data files for customers are contained in the center apparatus, a predetermined program processing of data corresponding to the ID card, which are contained in the center apparatus, is carried out, whether or not a transaction should be made is judged by the center apparatus based on the result of the program processing, and the result of the judgement is transmitted to the automatic transaction apparatus.
