An image formation apparatus which records an image on a recording medium is provided. The apparatus has a recording element array head on which plural recording chips are arranged, plural recording elements being arrayed on the recording chip, a reference clock generation unit for generating a reference clock, a main scan sync signal generation unit for generating a main scan sync signal by dividing the reference clock into 2,(n1: positive number) parts, an input unit for raster inputting image data for one line in synchronism with the main scan sync signal, a drive clock generation unit for generating a drive clock by dividing the reference clock into 2,(n2: positive number) parts and a drive unit for driving the recording chips in synchronism with the drive clock.

A motor control apparatus, which can control the speeds of a plurality of motors with nearly no speed variations until the final target speed is reached, includes a target speed setting circuit for dividing the speed range of the motors up to the final target speed into n steps (n is an integer and n.gtoreq.2) to set a target speed, and setting the next divided target speed after all the motors have reached the current divided target speed.

A recording head includes a light emitting element array having a plurality of light emitting elements, a first substrate on which the light emitting element array is carried, a drive element for driving the light emitting element array, a second substrate on which the drive element is carried, and a connecting member for connecting the first substrate and the second substrate together. A light-emitting device includes a number of light-emitting element groups each including a plurality of light-emitting elements, a first drive device for driving the plurality of light-emitting elements in succession, and a number of resistance sections, each separately connected to each of the light-emitting element groups. The resistance section is connected in common to the plurality of light-emitting elements. An image recording apparatus which performs time division and driving of 128 recording devices arrayed within an LED chip includes shift registers for sequentially serially outputting 128 bits of continuous pixel data to 56 signal lines, corresponding to each LED, from one line of serially input pixel data row, selectors which perform time division of the 56 pieces of pixel data into 8 times of 7 pieces apiece and then outputs the data, and registers which hold the pixel data output from the selectors for each corresponding LED chip. A memory addressing method by which it is possible to write into, or read out from, a memory a plurality of kinds of image data whose pixel data are transmitted in any of two or more different orders (sequences).
