To obtain an index print prepared by effectively utilizing photographic paper, magnetic information is read in accordance with feed of a negative film (202, 204), and a relevant index format is selected according to a number of photograph frames of the negative film to determine an index print size corresponding to the selected index format (206, 208). Next, each frame is subjected to exposure processing to accumulate image data respondent to the index format (210). Upon completion of the exposure processing of the negative film, the accumulated image data are read (212) to conduct index printing by using the read image data to cut in accordance with the index print size (214, 216). A method of correcting the light amount irregularities for a photographic printer in which an image displayed on a two-dimensional display unit is exposed by transmitting or reflecting the light from a light source through or from the two-dimensional display unit is disclosed. An LED light source is turned on with a predetermined driving voltage applied to all the pixels of a liquid crystal panel. The image on the liquid crystal panel is exposed for a predetermined length of time by the light transmitted through the liquid crystal panel and developed thereby to produce a photographic print. The density at a point corresponding to each pixel of the liquid crystal panel is measured. The light transmittance correction amount for each pixel of the liquid crystal panel is determined in such a manner that the density measured at each point conforms to a predetermined reference density (a minimum value of density measurement, for example). The driving voltage correction data for each pixel of the liquid crystal panel is calculated on the basis of the light transmittance correction amount thus determined.

A method of noise reduction processing for reducing noise generated when an image of a photographic film is converted to a digital image signal includes the steps of: measuring a large area transmission density of each of a plurality of image frames recorded on the photographic film; classifying measured values of the large area transmission density into a plurality of groups; reading the image signals of the same image frame by an amount corresponding to the number of inputs of the image signals of the same image frame set in advance for each of the classified groups; and subjecting the image signals of the same image frame which have been read to averaging processing.

A photographic printer has a main exposure section which successively prints, onto a photographic printing paper, images of a plurality of image frames recorded on a developed photographic film; and a secondary exposure section for forming, on a sheet-shaped photographic printing paper, an index print in which the images recorded on the plurality of image frames are arranged lengthwise and breadthwise. The photographic printer includes, as a light source for exposure of the index print, a high luminance reflecting type LED which emits parallel light of a blue color component of light, a high luminance reflecting type LED which emits parallel light of a red color component of light, and a high luminance reflecting type LED which emits parallel light of a green color component of light. The price printer is disposed in a position where each image printed on the photographic paper is detected. The number of defective prints selected by detection is input by an operator. The number of the defective prints is subtracted from the total number of prints which is automatically input from the printer-processor to calculate the number of prints to be delivered to a customer and compute a print price to be printed. Therefore, a proper statement of delivery can be made at a time and the efficiency of work can be improved. The price printer can read the length information so as to determine the kind of the photographic film and automatically set and print a development price. A process for determining the development price by the operator can be eliminated and a further improvement in the work efficiency can be made.
