Manufacturing titanium alloy component by beta forming

A non-heat refining steel having a high fatigue strength in addition to an excellent machinability, which consists essentially of 0.30-0.50 wt % of C, 0.35-0.70 wt % of Si, 0.80-1.40 wt % of Mn, 0.30-0.80 wt % of Cr, 0.05-0.35 wt % of V, not more than 0.15 wt % of S and not more than 0.35 wt % of Pb so that (S+Pb) is not less than 0.06 wt % and (S+Pb/4) is not more than 0.15 wt %, 0.0003 to 0.0050 wt % of Ca, not more than 0.010 wt % of Al, 0.0015-0.0030 wt % of O and the balance of being Fe and inevitable impurities, and has a micro-structure composed of 10 to 40% by area of ferrite and balanced pearlite after hot working and air cooling.

High strength non-heat refining free cutting steels

A steel composition for gears, consisting of: 0.10-0.30% by weight of C; less than 0.15% by weight of Si; no more than 1.5% by weight of Mn; no more than 0.015% by weight of P; no more than 0.005% by weight of S; 0.50-1.50% by weight of Cr; 0.005-0.06% by weight of Pb; and the balance being Fe and inevitably included impurities.

Steel for gears, having high strength, toughness and machinability

A combination of a first slide member made of ferrous material in which at least a slide surface layer thereof has a metallurgical structure having granular carbides dispersed in a matrix phase, and a second slide member made of ferrous material in which at least a slide surface layer thereof has a metallurgical structure having network-like carbides dispersed in a martensite matrix phase. A proportion of an area occupied by the granular carbides on the slide surface of the first slide member is larger than a proportion of an area occupied by the network-like carbides on the slide surface of the second slide member, and owing to this difference in these occupied area proportions, generation of coagulative wear (scuffing) between the respective slide members can be effectively prevented, and a good anti-wear property is obtainable from viewpoints of scuffing as well as pitting.

Combination of slide members

A valve operating mechanism for operating a valve in an internal combustion engine includes a hydraulic lash adjuster for imposing a hydraulic pressure against a cam follower slidably engaging a camshaft. The hydraulic lash adjuster includes a plunger slidably disposed in a cylinder and defining an oil chamber communicating with a pressure chamber between the plunger and the cylinder through a valve hole which can selectively be opened and closed by a free-ball check valve. The plunger is normally urged by a spring to move in a direction out of the cylinder toward the cam follower. The cam follower acts on an end of the valve stem of the valve through an interlink mechanism having an adjusting device for adjusting the volume of the pressure chamber of the hydraulic lash adjuster.

A wear resistant slide member made of iron-base sintered alloy in which carbides are dispersed in a matrix phase. 80% or more of the carbides contained in an alloy metallurgical structure are 4.about.15 .mu.m in sized, the carbides are dispersed at an average grain interval of 5.about.15 .mu.m, and a field-of-view occupation area proportion of the carbides is 10.about.15%. If this slide member is used in slide contact with a second slide member made of iron-base alloy whose slide surface layer is subjected to remelt-hardening treatment by means of high-density energy irradiation, amounts of abrasion of the both slide members are sufficiently small, and excellent durability as a combination of slide members for use in a power machine, can be revealed.

Wear resistant slide member made of iron-base sintered alloy

An iron-base article such as a camshaft has a remelted layer of high wear resistance on a cam surface, for example. To make such an iron-base article, molten metal is poured into a mold with a chill set therein to cast an iron-base article having a chilled region formed in contact with said chill. Then, metal powder which provides wear resistance upon being mixed is added to at least a portion of said chilled region. A high level of energy is applied to the portion of the chilled region to heat and remelt the same, and the remelted portion is thereafter cooled to form a remelted layer therein.

Oil is supplied from an oil pump as working oil to hydraulic lash adjusters and also as lubricating oil to journals and cams of a camshaft. The oil passage system includes a first supply passage connected to the oil pump, a second supply passage connected between the first supply passage and a first distribution passage coupled to a group of hydraulic lash adjusters, a joint passage connected to the first distribution passage, and a second distribution passage coupled to the joint passage and connected to another group of hydraulic lash adjusters. The second distribution passage is connected by air vent passages to a lubricating oil passage which supplies the camshaft with the lubricating oil. The joint passage is connected to one of the camshaft journals by a relief passage having a relief valve.
