The purpose of the present invention is to use chalcogenide glass to produce an infrared transmitting glass that is more suitable for mold-forming than the conventional glasses. Specifically, the invention provides an infrared transmitting glass for mold forming which contains, in molar concentrations, 2-22% of Ge, 6-34% of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Sb and Bi, 1-20% of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Sn and Zn and 58-70% of at least one element chosen from the group comprising S, Se and Te.

Infrared transmitting glass for mold forming

The present invention provides a blue-violet light blocking glass containing copper (I) halide fine particles that satisfactorily transmits light having a wavelength of 450 nm to 600 nm and sharply blocks light having a wavelength shorter than 450 nm. Specifically, the present invention provides a blue-violet light blocking glass containing a copper (I) halide and silver; for example, 20 to 85% by weight of SiO; 2 to 75% by weight of BO; not more than 10% by weight of AlO; 2 to 30% by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of LiO, NaO, KO, RbO and CsO; 1 to 15% by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO and ZnO; not more than 10% by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of PbO, NbO, ZrO, LaO, YO, TaOand GdO; not more than 5% by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of SbOand AsO; not more than 5% by weight of SnO; 0.01 to 10% by weight of a copper (I) halide; and 0.001 to 1% by weight of silver calculated on a metal basis.

Blue-violet light blocking glass

The present invention provides a method of producing a graded refractive index optical element, the method being capable of easily forming a graded refractive index distribution in a desired portion of a glass substrate without the need for a specific treatment atmosphere, and without using a molten salt. More specifically, the present invention provides a method of producing a graded refractive index optical element comprising applying a paste containing a copper compound, an organic resin and an organic solvent to a glass substrate containing an alkali metal component as a glass component, and then performing heat treatment at a temperature below the softening temperature of the glass substrate.

Method for manufacturing optical element of refractive index distribution type

The present invention provides a method of producing an optical element without the need for high vacuum, unlike the thin film deposition methods, and without using a molten salt. More specifically, the invention provides a method of producing an optical element comprising applying a paste containing at least one compound selected from lithium compounds, potassium compounds, rubidium compounds, cesium compounds, silver compounds, and thallium compounds, an organic resin, and an organic solvent to a glass substrate containing an alkali metal component as a glass component and then performing heat treatment at a temperature below the softening temperature of the glass substrate.

Process for producing optical device

The present invention provides a novel glass material that allows the production of a glass product having both excellent chemical durability and high precision by a press molding method. Specifically, the present invention provides a glass for press molding, comprising 38% to 45% by weight of SiO, 18% to 27% by weight of BO, 16% to 25% by weight of AlO, 2% to 12% by weight of ZnO, no more than 3% by weight of MgO, no more than 3% by weight of CaO, no more than 3% by weight of BaO, 13% to 18% by weight of LiO, no more than 3% by weight of KO, and no more than 2% by weight of NaO; wherein the glass has a deformation temperature of 520&#xb0; C. or lower; and the glass has a water resistance of grade 2 or higher as measured according to the Japanese Optical Glass Industrial Standard method for measuring the chemical durability of an optical glass.

Glass for press molding

The present invention provides a method for forming an optical waveguide characterized by applying a paste containing a copper compound to a glass substrate containing an alkali metal as a glass component over the whole surface thereof or in a patterned form, and performing heat treatment at a temperature lower than the softening temperature of the glass substrate. The method of the invention can produce an optical waveguide without the need for a high vacuum as in the thin film deposition method and without the use of a molten salt, and is capable of dispersing Cuions selectively in a glass substrate with excellent controllability.

The invention provides: a glass composition comprising about 20 to about 85% of SiO.sub.2, about 2 to about 75% of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, about 15% or less of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, about 30% or less of at least one of Li.sub.2 O, Na.sub.2 O, K.sub.2 O, Rb.sub.2 O and Cs.sub.2 O, about 0.1 to about 10% of ZnO, about 10% or less, calculated as total amount in combination with ZnO, of at least one of MgO, CaO, BaO, SrO and PbO, about 10% or less of at least one of ZrO.sub.2, La.sub.2 O.sub.3, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, Ta.sub.2 O.sub.3 and Gd.sub.2 O.sub.3, and about 0.05 to about 15% of at least one copper halide.

Glass composition

This invention provides (1) a colored glass comprising 20 to 85% by weight of SiO.sub.2, 2 to 75% by weight of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, not more than 15% by weight of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, not more than 30% by weight of at least one member of Li.sub.2 O, Na.sub.2 O, K.sub.2 O, Rb.sub.2 O and Cs.sub.2 O, not more than 10% by weight of at least one member of MgO, CaO, ZnO, BaO, SrO and PbO, not more than 10% by weight of at least one member of ZrO.sub.2, La.sub.2 O.sub.3, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, Ta.sub.2 O.sub.3 and Gd.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0.05 to 15% by weight of at least one copper halide, and 0.001 to 7% by weight of at least one member of oxides of Fe, Ni, Mn, Co, V, Cr, Cu, Nd and Pd; and (2) a colored glass comprising 8 to 25% by weight of SiO.sub.2, 5 to 35% by weight of P.sub.2 O.sub.5, not more than 30% by weight of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 10 to 35% by weight of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 5 to 20% by weight of at least one member of Li.sub.2 O, Na.sub.2 O, K.sub.2 O, Rb.sub.2 O and Cs.sub.2 O, not more than 20% by weight of at least one member of MgO, CaO, ZnO, BaO, SrO and PbO, not more than 10% by weight of at least one member of ZrO.sub.2, La.sub.2 O.sub.3, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, Ta.sub.2 O.sub.3 and Gd.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0.05 to 15% by weight of at least one copper halide, and 0.001 to 7% by weight of at least one member of oxides of Fe, Ni, Mn, Co, V, Cr, Cu, Nd and Pd.
