A liquid crystalline resin which comprises at least one kind of liquid crystalline polymer selected from liquid crystalline polyester and liquid crystalline polyester amide, both forming an anisotropic molten phase, and an inorganic phosphorus compound, said liquid crystalline resin having an absorbance of 0.5 or less at 380 nm when measured over an optical path length of 10 mm in a 0.5 wt % solution in a 1:1 mixed solvent of pentafluorophenol and chloroform (by weight). It is useful as engineering plastics because of improved color, heat resistance, and hydrolytic resistance.

Disclosed herein is a liquid crystalline resin compound which includes about 100 pbw of liquid crystalline resin and about 5-200 pbw of inorganic filler, the liquid crystalline resin being composed of about 99.5-50 wt % of partially aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin and about 0.5-50 wt % of wholly aromatic liquid crystalline polyester resin, and the inorganic filler having an average aspect ratio in the range of 3 to 25. Also disclosed is a molded article of liquid crystalline resin obtained by molding from the liquid crystalline resin compound. The resin compound is superior in flowability and the molded article has good mechanical properties, especially balanced rigidity and toughness.

The present invention relates to polyesters capable to give moldings having excellent flow characteristics, heat resistance and mechanical properties. These polyesters are prepared by copolymerizing specified amounts of specific dioxycompounds such as t-butylhydroquinone, phenylhydroquinone and so on with polyesters comprising specified amounts of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, hydroquinone and terephthalic acid or terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid.

The subject invention relates to the polyester compositions being composed of (a) an aromatic polyester having the relative viscosity of 1.2 to 2.0, (b) an aromatic polycarbonate having the number average molecular weight of 10,000 to 80,000, and (c) a glycidyl-group containing copolymer consisting essentially of .alpha.-olefine and glycidyl ester of .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and having the melt index of 0.1 to 100. They are useful for manufacturing electric, electronic and automotive parts, being superior in flow property and melt stability on molding, as well as in mechanical properties particularly in impact and hot-air aging resistance. The compositions can be molded to form various articles by conventional molding methods.

Polyester compositions and molded articles therefrom

Disclosed is a flame-retardant liquid crystal polyester composition, which comprises (A) 100 wt. parts of a liquid crystal polyester comprising structural units of the following formulae (I), (II), (III) and (IV), in which the amount of units (I) and (II) is 77 to 95 mole% based on the sum of units (I), (II) and (III), the amount of units (III) is 23 to 5 mole% based on the sum of units (I), (II) and (III), and the units (I)/units (II) molar ratio is 75/25-95/5 and (B) 0.5 to 30 wt. parts of a polymeric flame retardant having an average dispersed particle diameter not larger than 2.5 .mu.m: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are specific aromatic residues. This composition gives a molded article having a superior flame retardancy, heat resistance, mechanical properties, and appearance.
