An image output panel includes: a first polarization plate that transmits light polarized in a first direction and blocks light polarized in a direction different from the first direction; a second polarization plate that transmits light polarized in a second direction different from the first direction and blocks light polarized in a direction different from the second direction; a liquid crystal panel that is disposed between the first polarization plate and the second polarization plate; and a retardation plate that changes the polarization direction of light from the first direction to the second direction or from the second direction to the first direction. When a polarization direction of output light that is output from the image output panel is referred to as a first polarization direction, the output light having the first polarization direction is light having the first polarization direction included in incident light from a light source.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a plurality of scanning lines, a plurality of signal lines, a plurality of pixels, a pixel electrode and a common electrode, wherein the pixel electrode includes a first trunk portion and a plurality of first branch portions extending from the first trunk portion, the common electrode includes a second trunk portion and a plurality of second branch portions extending from the second trunk portion, the plurality of first branch portions and the plurality of second branch portions are arranged alternately, and the signal lines and the pixel electrodes are formed of a same material and by a same process.

Display device

According to one embodiment, a display device includes scanning lines, signal lines, pixels, a pixel electrode, a common electrode including a stem portion and branch portions, and a third wiring line, wherein a region where each pixel electrode and the first scanning line overlap is larger than a region where the respective pixel electrode and the second scanning line overlap, a width of the first region of the third wiring lines is less than a width of the scanning lines, and the branch portions of the common electrode extend from the stem portion along the second direction.

According to one embodiment, an optical control element includes a plurality of lens forming regions along a first direction and a second direction orthogonal to the first direction, each of the lens forming regions includes an annularly shaped second electrode and a circularly shaped first electrode provided on an inner side of the second electrode, a plurality of first wiring lines connected to the first electrodes each include a first stem portion extending in a zigzag shape along the second direction and a plurality of first branch portions extending from the first stem, and each of the first branch portions overlap the plurality of first electrodes, respectively.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel configured to modulate a first polarization component, a first viewing angle control panel including a first liquid crystal layer containing twisted liquid crystal molecules, a second viewing angle control panel including a second liquid crystal layer containing twisted liquid crystal molecules, and a polarization axis rotation element provided between the first viewing angle control panel and the display panel. A second polarization axis of a second polarization component which passed through the first viewing angle control panel is different from a first polarization axis of the first polarization component. The polarization axis rotation element is configured to rotate the second polarization axis.

The purpose of the present invention is to realize a high contrast display with liquid crystal display device using a liquid crystal light valve. A representative structure is as follows. A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel, a backlight, and a liquid crystal light valve; the light valve includes a plurality of first electrodes extending in a first direction and formed on the first substrate; a first insulating film is formed on the first electrode; a plurality of second electrodes are formed in a matrix at predetermined intervals on the first insulating film; a second insulating film is formed on the second electrodes; a plurality of third electrodes extending in a second direction are formed on the second insulating film; the liquid crystal is sandwiched between the third electrodes and the second substrate; the predetermined interval between the second electrodes is 2 to 10 μm.

Liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal light valve

According to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel having a display region in which pixel rows are arranged in a second direction; a scanning circuit configured to supply a drive signal to scan the pixel rows; a light source configured to emit light toward the display panel; and a light source control circuit configured to control light emission timing of the light source. The display region is divided into regions in the second direction and includes a first region including two or more pixel rows consecutively arranged in the second direction, and a second region except for the first region. The scanning circuit sequentially scans the pixel rows in the first region, and simultaneously scans two or more pixel rows consecutively arranged in the second direction in the second region.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first display panel, a second display panel and an adhesive layer. The first display panel includes a first substrate with a first terminal area in which a first terminal part is formed, and a second substrate which is opposed to the first substrate and has a thickness different from that of the first substrate. The second display panel includes a third substrate with a second terminal area in which a second terminal part is formed, and a fourth substrate which is opposed to the third substrate and has a thickness different from that of the third substrate. The first terminal area and the second terminal area do not overlap with each other in a plan view.

According to one embodiment, a display device including a display panel which displays images, a polarization axis rotation element located between the display panel and an observer, and a polarizer located between the display panel and the polarization axis rotation element, wherein the polarization axis rotation element includes a first area and a second area different from the first area, and an orientation of a first polarization axis of a first polarization component transmitted through the first area is different from an orientation of a second polarization axis of a second polarization component transmitted through the second area.

According to an aspect, a liquid crystal panel includes: a light-transmitting first substrate; a light-transmitting second substrate disposed facing the first substrate with a liquid crystal interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate; a conductive layer provided on the first substrate on a side facing the liquid crystal and comprising wiring lines or electrodes; an insulating layer stacked on the conductive layer on a side facing the liquid crystal; a first electrode layer stacked on the insulating layer on a side facing the liquid crystal; a second electrode layer provided on the second substrate on a side facing the liquid crystal; and a switch capable of opening and closing a coupling path between the first electrode layer and a reset potential. A sheet resistance of the first electrode layer is higher than a sheet resistance of the conductive layer and a sheet resistance of the second electrode layer.

Liquid crystal panel and display device

According to one embodiment, a polarization conversion element includes a first substrate including a first plane electrode and a first control electrode, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The first control electrode comprises a first strip electrode, a second strip electrode, a third strip electrode, and a first common electrode. The first strip electrode and the first common electrode are orthogonal to each other, respective extension directions of the first to third strip electrodes are different from each other, and an angle formed by the first strip electrode and the third strip electrode is greater than an angle formed by the first strip electrode and the second strip electrode.

Polarization conversion element

According to one embodiment, a polarization conversion element includes a first wiring and a second wiring, a planar electrode, a control electrode including first strip electrodes, and a first alignment film, a second substrate including a second alignment film, and a liquid crystal layer. An alignment treatment direction of the first alignment film and an alignment treatment direction of the second alignment film are parallel to each other and cross an extension direction of the first strip electrodes. The control electrode overlaps the planar electrode in plan view. An applied voltage of the first wiring is configured to be higher than an applied voltage of the second wiring. The planar electrode is configured to have a voltage gradient.

According to one embodiment, a display system includes an external light sensor, a display panel, a viewing angle control panel including a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules twist-aligned, configured such that a drive voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer is controlled based on an external light intensity detected by the external light sensor, and a polarization axis rotation element disposed between the viewing angle control panel and the display panel. The drive voltage when the external light intensity is less than a threshold value is greater than the drive voltage when the external light intensity is greater or equal to than the threshold value.

According to an aspect, a liquid crystal panel includes: a first substrate that is a light-transmitting substrate; a second substrate that is disposed facing the first substrate with a liquid crystal interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and is a light-transmitting substrate; a wiring layer provided on the first substrate on a side facing the liquid crystal and comprising a plurality of wiring lines arrayed in a predetermined direction; an insulating layer stacked on the wiring layer on a side facing the liquid crystal; a first electrode layer stacked on the insulating layer on a side facing the liquid crystal; and a second electrode layer provided on the second substrate on a side facing the liquid crystal. A sheet resistance of the first electrode layer is higher than a sheet resistance of the wiring layer and a sheet resistance of the second electrode layer.
