A printing apparatus prints an image on a recording medium unwound by an unwinder. The recording medium is wound around a first winding shaft in order from a beginning edge to an ending edge of the recording medium. The wound recording medium is rewound, and the rewound recording medium is wound around a second winding shaft in order from the ending edge to the beginning edge of the recording medium.

Provided are intermediate coupling unit that can maintain universal applicability of image forming apparatus so it can singly form images/be installed in small offices, but can also couple two apparatuses if necessary, and image forming apparatus adaptable to this unit. Intermediate coupling unit includes carry-in port at lower surface right side, plural conveying roller pairs sandwiching and conveying internally-carried-in recording medium, discharge ports formed near upper surface right/left ends for externally discharging recording medium, first/second flaps switching among conveying paths, A, B, C, paper discharge tray fixed at upper internal position, and internal paper feed cassette detachable downward. Intermediate coupling unit between two image forming apparatuses and image forming apparatus adaptable thereto

A head controller,reads out adjustment data from a ROM,immediately after a power-on operation. The adjustment data is prepared for adjusting unevenness of light emission from LEDs in a LED head,. A buffer memory,stores the read adjustment data. The head controller,reads the adjustment data from the buffer memory,with high data transfer rate, and obtains bitmap data from a frame memory or the like (not shown). The head controller,sends the read bitmap data and the adjustment data to an anode driver,. The head controller,sends a strobe signal to the anode driver,and a cathode driver,. The anode driver,adjusts ampere of supplied currents (i.e. drive signals corresponding to the bitmap data) from the head controller,, in accordance with the received adjustment data in response to the reception of the strobe signal. The adjusted drive signals are sent to LED array chips,. At the same time, the cathode driver,selects one of the LED array chips,in accordance with the received strobe signal so that the LEDs emit even lights. The optical writing head driving device,performs the above operations repeatedly to sequentially emit lights from the LEDs chip by chip under time sharing control for 1 line writing. As a result, the bitmap data is written onto a photosensitive member evenly at a high speed.

Optical writing head driving device and method of driving optical writing head

A recording apparatus has an array of recording elements arranged in a main scanning direction and having a predetermined dot pattern, and forms a dot image on a recording medium located opposite to the recording elements. Reception circuit receives image data of a predetermined dot density. A plurality of line buffers store one dot line of data of interest as a printing target among the image data and aligned in the main scanning direction, and plural dot lines of data preceding and following the one dot line with respect to a sub-scanning direction. A compensation data generating circuit converts the one dot line of data of interest as the printing target into N lines of compensation data, divided by N with respect to the sub-scanning direction, based on the plural dot lines of data preceding and following the one dot line. A control circuit controls the time for activating the recording elements based on the compensation data. Recording will therefore be accomplished with a dot recording density in the sub-scanning direction different from the dot density of the image data.
