A liquid crystal display is provided, including a conversion circuit to convert a first image data to a second image data, a frame memory to store the second image data, a difference circuit to output in units of pixel a difference data between the second image data of the present frame to be converted and a third image data of an antecedent frame to be outputted from the frame memory, a correction circuit to correct the difference data based on one of the first to third image data, and an adding circuit to add the corrected difference data and the first image data.

Liquid crystal display and processing method thereof

This invention relates to an image processing method for improving the quality of an image to be displayed on a display device and to a liquid-crystal display device using the same, and aims at providing an image processing method for providing wide viewing angle and excellent tonal-intensity viewing angle characteristic and a liquid-crystal display device using the same. Combined together are a higher-luminance pixel to be driven higher in luminance than the luminance data of an image to be displayed and a lower-luminance pixel to be driven lower in luminance than the luminance data, to determine a luminance on the higher-luminance pixel and luminance on the lower-luminance pixel as well as an area ratio of the higher-luminance and lower-luminance pixels in a manner obtaining a luminance nearly equal to a desired luminance based on the luminance data.

Image processing method and liquid-crystal display device using the same

A liquid crystal display device includes a panel having pixel electrodes arranged at intersections of a plurality of signal lines via switching elements for transmitting display data and a plurality of scanning lines for transmitting control signals, and a control circuit for controlling the panel. The liquid crystal panel is divided into first pixel regions and second pixel regions adjacent to the first pixel regions. The control circuit carries out impulse driving in which the control signals transmitted to each of the scanning lines are activated two times in one frame period for displaying an image. The control circuit writes the display data in either one of the pixel regions and writes reset data in the other pixel regions when the control signals are activated once of the two times. By writing the reset data in the pixel regions, the display data written in an immediately preceding frame are reset. In consecutive frames, the display data written in the pixel regions are always reset in one frame period. Therefore, blurring in a moving image can be alleviated. Since writing the display data and the reset data is carried out separately in the first pixel regions and in the second pixel regions, flicker is prevented from occurring in a display screen.

Apparatus and method to improve quality of moving image displayed on liquid crystal display device

A semiconductor device includes a plurality of memories, a sequencer which outputs configuration information, and a memory reconfiguring circuit which reconfigures the memory area in accordance with the configuration information supplied from the sequencer. An image signal processing device is provided, which has therein a memory to store a first correction parameter to convert a specific region of display image of a display panel, a first coefficient generating section to generate a first coefficient for each pixel in a display panel based on the first correction parameter, a first correction value generating section to generate a first correction value for each pixel based on an input image signal, a first multiplier to multiply the first coefficient by the first correction value for each pixel and output a first multiplied value, and a first adder to add or subtract for each pixel the first multiplied value to or from the input image signal.

A reconfigurable processor calculates execution times of configuration for executing pipeline processing from hardware configuration information, and fixes a clock cycle until processing ends. A counter compares the fixed clock cycle with the actual number of elapsed clocks, and, when the number of elapsed clocks equals the clock cycle, it is determined that pipeline processing has ended, and a configuration controller is notified of this.

An operational unit determines, for subfield(s) other than a last subfield of a plurality of subfields constituting a single frame period, based on a difference determined by a data comparison unit, exceeded display data for setting the transmittance of each pixel to a value exceeding a target transmittance corresponding to image data supplied anew. The operational unit also determines, for the last subfield of the single frame period, based on the difference determined by the data comparison unit, target display data for setting the transmittance of each pixel to the target transmittance. An overshoot operation or operations are performed within the single frame period, and each pixel is set to the transmittance corresponding to the image data. This makes it possible to avoid trails occurring in moving image display and enhance the appearance of moving image display with no increase in frame rate.
