An inorganic chromium-free metal surface treatment agent contains a compound X containing a metal X, ionic species of which containing the metal Xbecome cations in an aqueous solution, and a compound Y containing a metal Y, ionic species of which containing the metal Ybecome anions in an aqueous solution, a total content of the compound X being from 0.01 to 10% by mass, a total content of the compound Y being from 0.01 to 10% by mass, a molar ratio of the metal Xin the cation and the metal Yin the anion being from 0.1 to 5, the metal Xbeing at least one member selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr and Al, the metal Ybeing at least one member selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Si, B and Al, and the metal surface treatment agent containing substantially no organic resin.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a pretreatment method for coating, which does not limit a coating method, places a less burden on the environment and can apply good chemical conversion treatment to all metals such as iron, zinc, aluminum and so on. A pretreatment method for coating comprising treating a substance to be treated by a chemical conversion coating agent to form a chemical conversion coat, wherein the chemical conversion coating agent comprises: at least one kind selected from the group consisting of zirconium, titanium and hafnium; fluorine; and at least one kind selected from the group consisting of amino group-containing silane coupling agents, hydrolysates thereof and polymers thereof.

The invention relates to a method for coating a metallic strip. The strip or optionally, the strip sections produced from said strip in the subsequent process, is/are first coated with at least one anticorrosion layer&#x2014;according to an alternative form of embodiment, this can be left out&#x2014;and then with at least one layer of a paint-like coating containing polymers. After being coated with at least one anticorrosion layer or after being coated with at least one layer of a paint-like coating, the strip is divided into strip sections. The coated strip sections are then formed, joined and/or coated with at least one (other) paint-like coating and/or paint coating. The paint-like coating is formed by coating the surface with an aqueous dispersion containing the following in addition to water: a) at least one organic film former containing at least one water-soluble or water-dispersed polymer with an acid value of 5 to 200; b) at least one inorganic compound in particle form with an average particle diameter measured on a scanning electron microscope of 0.005 to 0.3 &#x3bc;m; and c) at least one lubricant and/or at least one corrosion inhibitor. The metallic surface that is optionally coated with at least one anticorrosion layer is brought into contact with the aqueous composition and a film containing particles is formed on the metallic surface, this film then being dried and optionally also hardened, the dried and optionally, also hardened film having a layer thickness of 0.01 to 10 &#x3bc;m. The invention also relates to a corresponding aqueous composition.

The invention relates to a method for coating a metal surface with an aqueous composition, characterized in that the composition contains, in addition to water: a) at least one organic film former that contains at least one water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer with an acid number ranging from 5 to 200, b) at least one particulate inorganic compound with an average particle diameter measured by a scanning electron microscope in the range of from 0.005 to 0.3&#x3bc;, c) at least one slip additive and/or at least one corrosion inhibitor, d) optionally at least one organic solvent, e) optionally at least one silane and/or siloxane, f) optionally at least one cross-linking agent, and g) optionally at least one chromium (VI) compound. The clean metal surface is contacted with the aqueous composition and a particle-containing film is formed on the metal surface which is then dried. The present invention provides a non-chromium anticorrosive coatings suitable for metal materials comprising 0.2 to 50 g of a thiocarbonyl group-containing compound and 50 to 500 g of a water-dispersible silica without a substantial amount of a phosphate ion in one liter of a composition containing aqueous resins and water as main components, and an anticorrosive treatment using the anticorrosive coatings described above.
