A self-emulsifiable polyisocyanate with high functionality, having the average number of functional groups in 4.3 or more and a viscosity of 8,000 mPa&middot;s (at 25&deg; C.) or less, which is obtained by subjecting a modified polyisocyanate containing allophanate bonds and a poly(oxyalkylene)glycol monoalkyl ether (e) having oxyethylene bonds in a total amount of 30 mole % or more in its molecule to a urethanization reaction, said modified polyisocyanate being obtained by reacting a polyol (a) having the average number of functional groups in an amount of 2 or more with an organic polyisocyanate (b) in the presence of an allophanate-forming catalyst (c) comprising a zirconium carboxylate; and a process for producing the same.

An adhesive for lamination which comprises a resin whose dynamic wettability to a film substrate is at least 0.20 mN alone or in combination with a polyisocyanate curing agent, said adhesive for lamination having a good adhesiveness to a film substrate such as a plastic film, a metal foil, a metallized film or paper.

An aqueous emulsion which comprises as a resin component a self-emulsifiable copolymer in which at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and at least one urethane prepolymer having at least one mercapto group and at least one hydrophilic, polar group are bonded by radical polymerization or in which at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer, at least one organic polyisocyanate, at least one compound having at least one mercapto group and at least one active hydrogen-containing group and at least one compound having at least one hydrophilic, polar group and at least one active hydrogen-containing group are bonded by urethanization reaction and radical polymerization. The aqueous emulsion is better in storage stability than conventional ones.
