An alarm apparatus mounted on a vehicle is provided to output an alarm sound around the vehicle. The alarm apparatus generates a sound wave signal having a frequency that is hardly masked by an environmental sound, and outputs an alarm sound based on the sound wave signal.

An ultrasonic wave output apparatus includes at least one ultrasonic wave output unit and a vibration portion. The ultrasonic wave output unit is configured to output ultrasonic waves corresponding to an input signal from a sound wave output surface along a predetermined travel direction. The vibration portion has a vibration surface parallel to the sound wave output surface and set at a distance n&#x3bb; from the sound wave output surface, where n is an integer of 0 or more and &#x3bb; is the wavelength of the ultrasonic waves, and is a plate-like member that surrounds the periphery of the ultrasonic wave output unit in directions at right angles to the travel direction, and is configured to transmit vibration produced by the ultrasonic wave output unit to the vibration surface.

An ultrasonic wave output device includes a plurality of ultrasonic wave output units and an overlapping range change unit. The plurality of ultrasonic wave output units are arranged along a horizontal direction in a vehicle. A drive support display device supporting a drive of a self-vehicle based on a detection result by an object detector regarding a nearby area of the self-vehicle. The device receives object information from an external source, the object information identifying a nearby object existing in the nearby area of the self-vehicle, determines whether the nearby object is detected by the object detector, and provides a warning indicator when the determination section determines that the nearby object is an undetected nearby object that is not detected by the object detector. As a result, the undetected nearby object, which is already identified as existing somewhere nearby the self-vehicle but is invisible therefrom, may be emphasized in an image provided by the drive support display device.

An apparatus mountable on a vehicle includes a movable device, a sensor, and a drive controller. The movable device is mountable on the vehicle so that a person around the vehicle sees the movable device. The movable device has at least one light emitter and is capable of rotating around an imaginary line extending in a height direction of the vehicle. The sensor detects a positional relationship between the vehicle and the person. The drive controller rotates the movable device toward the person based on the positional relationship detected by the sensor. The number of the light emitters shining steadily is increased after the drive controller rotates the movable device toward the person.

The supersonic sound is emitted from a sound emission opening. The parametric speaker may further include a reflected sound pressure detecting unit for detecting a sound pressure generated by a reflection of the supersonic sound from the sound emission opening. The sound pressure supplement unit increases the sound pressure of the notification sound radiated by the dynamic speaker based on the sound pressure detected by the reflected sound pressure detecting unit.

A vehicle presence notification apparatus notifying a presence of a vehicle includes an alarm device and a dynamic speaker. The alarm device includes an alarm generator generating an alarm sound and an acoustic tube through which the alarm sound is emitted outside of the vehicle. The dynamic speaker generates a notification sound with audible frequency. The dynamic speaker is fixed to the acoustic tube and emits the notification sound inside of the acoustic tube, such that the notification sound is generated outside of the vehicle through the acoustic tube.

Notice sounds having different sound qualities are generated simultaneously outside a vehicle via an in-vehicle parametric speaker having a first directionality and an in-vehicle dynamic speaker using a vehicular horn unit having a second directionality having a broader emission angle as compared with the first directionality. Both the notice sound via the parametric speaker and the notice sound via the dynamic speaker reach the ears of a person outside the vehicle in different sound pressures based on a difference between the first directionality and the second directionality. A sound tone of a notice sound actually heard by the person outside the vehicle varies according to a travel direction and travel speed of the vehicle.

A vehicle existence informing device is configured to inform existence of a vehicle by using a warning sound at a frequency in an audible range. A speaker array includes at least two speakers arranged so that oscillation directions of oscillators of the at least two speakers substantially coincide with each other. The speaker array is configured to radiate a warning sound in air on a carrier wave, which is at a frequency in an ultrasonic range. A phase control unit is configured to advance and delay a phase of a sound wave radiated from one of the at least two speakers with respect to a phase of a sound wave radiated from another of the at least two speakers.

A vehicle presence notification apparatus notifies a presence of a vehicle by providing easily-perceivable and less uncomfortable notification sound outside of the vehicle. The vehicle presence notification apparatus includes: a speaker and a controller. The controller is configured to cause the speaker to generate the notification sound that simultaneously has (i) at least one fundamental high frequency, which is easily perceivable, but annoying to human ears; and (ii) at least one auxiliary low frequency, which is less than the at least one fundamental high frequency and has a harmonic relation with the at least one fundamental high frequency.

A vehicle presence alert apparatus for alerting a target object to a presence of the vehicle via an alert sound with a frequency in an audible range is disclosed. The vehicle presence alert apparatus includes: a sound emitter configured to (i) cause a carrier wave with a frequency in an ultrasonic range to carry the alert sound, and (ii) emit the carrier wave carrying the alert sound as a radiation wave toward the target object; a sound receiver configured to receive a reflected wave, the reflected wave being generated due to reflection of the radiation wave by the target object; and relative velocity calculation means for calculating a relative velocity of the target object with respect to the vehicle based on a frequency of the radiation wave and a frequency of the reflected wave.
