The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device that can retain a favorable VHR and a low residual DC voltage and minimize display unevenness such as stains and image sticking, in long-term use at high temperatures. The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including a pixel electrode; a second substrate facing the first substrate; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate; an aromatic polyimide-based alignment film disposed on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate; and a radical generator capable of supplying a radical to the liquid crystal layer upon being irradiated with light, the liquid crystal layer containing a liquid crystal compound with an alkenyl group, the aromatic polyimide-based alignment film containing at least one polymer selected from a polyimide and a polyamic acid and being in no contact with the pixel electrode, the at least one polymer containing an aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydride monomer unit.

Liquid crystal display device

At least either a first substrate or a second substrate has regions corresponding to subpixels () and provided with ribs () for controlling how a liquid crystal material is aligned. Scanning signal lines () and picture element electrodes () are overlapped with each other via an insulating material as seen in plan view. The ribs () and the scanning signal lines () are at least partially overlapped with each other as seen in plan view.

In one embodiment of the present invention, a display panel includes an active matrix type pixel region including scanning signal lines each of which is connected to three terminal elements each of which serves as an active element, the active matrix type pixel region including a non-rectangular shape by being configured such that the respective scanning signal lines are connected with various numbers of the three terminal elements according to where the scanning signal lines are located, and a shift register which drives the scanning signal lines, the shift register being formed in a region on a panel substrate, the region being adjacent to the pixel region in a direction in which the scanning signal lines extend.

Liquid crystal display panel and liquid crystal display device

A reflective liquid crystal display device is provided in which, on one of a pair of substrates opposed to each other with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween, data signal lines and scanning signal lines are provided so as to cross each other, thin film transistors are provided so as to be electrically connected to the data signal lines and the scanning signal lines, reflective pixel electrodes are provided on an interlayer insulator formed so as to cover at least a part of the data signal lines, the scanning signal lines, or the thin film transistors, and the reflective pixel electrodes are electrically connected to drain electrodes of the thin film transistors, wherein an underlying film is disposed in contact with the interlayer insulator, the underlying film uniforming heat conduction and/or light transmittance between the interlayer insulator and the one of the substrates and/or contact properties of the interlayer insulator with respect to the one of the substrates in a region where at least one of the reflective pixel electrodes is formed.

Reflective liquid crystal display device

A method for producing a reflection-type liquid crystal display device includes the steps of forming an ITO layer in the first substrate; patterning the ITO layer to form the top layer in the at least one of the terminal sections; forming a first protective layer so as to cover the top layer; forming a metal layer mainly formed of aluminum so as to cover the first protective layer; and at least partially removing the metal layer and the first protective layer to form a reflective section from the metal layer and expose only the flat area of the top surface of the top layer in the at least one of the terminal sections. Before the step of forming the first protective layer, only the flat area of the top surface of the layer is exposed in at least one of the terminal sections so as to allow the first protective layer to contact the top layer along only the flat area.

Reflection-type liquid crystal display device, method for producing the same, and method for producing circuit board

An active display device, comprising: a plurality of source buses and a plurality of gate buses; a plurality of pixel electrodes, said pixel electrodes each having associated therewith a switching element for delivering a drive signal to said pixel electrode from at least one of said source buses as a function of a signal provided by at least one of said gate buses; and means other than said switching elements for selectively electrically connecting at least one of said pixel electrodes to a corresponding one of said source buses in the event said at least one pixel electrode is considered to be defective.

Active matrix display device

Fault tolerant active matrix display device

An active matrix display device comprising: scanning branch lines each branching from the scanning line; and switching elements each formed on an end portion of the scanning branch line, wherein the distance between the scanning line side of the switching element and the scanning line is so provided as to enable the scanning branch line to be cut off by irradiation with light energy. Alternatively, an active matrix display device comprising: a conductive layer disposed under the signal line and the pixel electrode with an insulating film interposed therebetween; and a conductive piece formed between the pixel electrode and the insulating film.
