A cassette case 1 with a substantially rectangular surface includes substantially cylindrical cores 2a, 2b, 2c each rotatably supported therein. A drive control method for a thermal transfer printer adapted to carry out printing by melting a thermofusible ink of an ink ribbon and transferring the molten ink onto a printing paper. The ink ribbon is formed with a blank portion coated with no ink, which blank portion is formed between an ink layer and a mark for indicating the ink layer. Under the condition where the thermal head is spaced from the printing paper, the ink ribbon is moved to bring the blank portion into opposition to the thermal head. At this position, the thermal head is pressed through the blank portion against the printing paper. Then, the thermal head is moved relative to the printing paper and the ink layer, and simultaneously the thermal head is heated to transfer the ink of the ink layer onto the printing paper. According to this drive control method, no ink is transferred onto the printing paper upon pressing the thermal head through the ink ribbon against the printing paper, thereby preventing staining of the printing paper due to the ink.

The present invention relates to an ink ribbon winding mechanism for a printer which prints with an ink ribbon. It is constructed by disposing a ribbon winding gear, which is connected with an ink ribbon winding shaft through a slipping mechanism, and a detection driving gear for detecting markers for color identification for a color ink ribbon, which is connected directly with the winding shaft, and by locating a transmission gear for transmitting the driving force of a driving source selectively to these two gears between the driving source driving the ink ribbon winding shaft and the winding gear as well as the detection driving gear. The marker for color identification are detected correctly by directly transmitting the driving force from the driving source to the ribbon winding shaft at the detetion of the markers in the color ink ribbon.

An insulating sheet having through holes formed therein at positions where circuit patterns formed on its both surfaces are electrically connected is prepared. A sheet for forming a hole bottom is attached to one surface of the insulating sheet. Subsequently, a first-layer circuit pattern is printed on the other surface of the insulating sheet to which the hole-bottom sheet is not attached, and a conductive paste is filled into the holes. Thereafter, the hole-bottom sheet is removed. Then, a second-layer circuit pattern is printed on the surface of the insulating sheet, from which the hole-bottom sheet is removed. With this process, a two-layer printed circuit sheet is manufactured.

A thermal transfer printer erases previously recorded characters by applying heating energy of higher surface density than that used to originally transfer thermally fusible material onto a recording sheet. A thermal transfer tape made of a polyester film and a layer of thermally fusible material is interposed between a thermal head of the printer and the recording sheet at the position to be erased. The thermally fusible material has a higher adhering affinity for the polyester film than for the recording sheet at the higher heating energy level and thus fusible material previously recorded on the recording sheet adheres to the tape at the higher energy level. When the tape is pulled away from the recording sheet, the previously recorded character adheres to the tape and is pulled away with it.
