In a semiconductor laser array of the present invention, a plurality of laser elements (first to fifth laser elements) are disposed such that waveguides of the laser elements are parallel to one another, each of the plurality of laser elements includes a front-end-surface reflection film on a front end surface serving as a light emitting surface of the waveguide, each of the plurality of laser elements includes a rear-end-surface reflection film on a rear end surface opposite to the front end surface with the waveguide sandwiched between the front end surface and the rear end surface, the front-end-surface reflection films of at least two of the plurality of laser elements have different reflectances, the rear-end-surface reflection films of the plurality of laser elements have the same reflectance, and the plurality of laser elements are driven by a single power supply.

A power conversion apparatus includes arms in each of which one or more unit converters each including a capacitor and capable of outputting an arbitrary voltage are connected in series, and a point P as a first node to which one end of the respective arms are Y-connected, and a point N as a second node to which a neutral terminal of the rotary electric machine is connected. A control apparatus for use with a voltage source converter includes legs, each of which is configured by a plurality of converter modules each having a capacitor. Each of the legs has a first terminal on a positive side and a second terminal on a negative side. The control apparatus is configured to create command pulses for operating the converter modules. The command pulses have a frequency that is a non-integer multiple of a frequency of a system voltage. The non-integer multiple may be, for example, 3.5.

Multilevel voltage source converter and method for balancing capacitors

A semiconductor laser light source includes a semiconductor laser block mounted on a stem which is a support base, the semiconductor laser block which is a block has a plurality of surfaces, and a plurality of semiconductor laser chips emit laser light beams of different wavelengths, respectively. An optical disc on which information can be recorded by recording light has a first recording layer () and a second recording layer () disposed behind the first recording layer as viewed by the recording light; the first recording layer and the second recording layer have respective power adjustment areas (P, P) that are used to adjust the power of the recording light to the optimal recording power at the time of recording of information on each recording layer; a prewrite area (PW) is provided in correspondence to the power adjustment area (P) used for optimal power adjustment in the second recording layer and restricted areas (A, A) on both sides of that power adjustment area (P). The restricted areas (A, A) allow for the diameter of the recording light beam and for lamination misalignment. This configuration enables stable test recording to be carried out in a short time on an optical disc having multiple recording layers.

A thermostat independently controlling cooling water passages of two circuits, including a first valve body having first and second passages in constant communication. A third passage is selectively connected to those passages. Communication of the third passage is disconnected when the cooling water temperature is below a prescribed temperature, and the valve is opened when the cooling water temperature is equal to or higher than the prescribed temperature. A second valve body, having fourth and fifth passages selectively in communication, closes the valve to disconnect those passages when the cooling water temperature is below the prescribed temperature, and opens the valve by operating the first valve body to link the passages when the cooling water temperature is equal to or higher than the prescribed temperature. A tubular sleeve prevents first and second control chambers, respectively including the first and second valve bodies, from communicating with each other.

Thermostat for two-system cooling device

A heat generating unit is incorporated in a mask in order to actively supply warm steam, and also drug vapor, to the nose and throat, and moisturize the upper respiratory tract. It is preferable that a metal powder, salt, and water be contained in the heat generating unit, and that an exothermic composition that releases steam in conjunction with the oxidation reaction of the metal powder be used therein. It is preferable that either an inhalation valve or exhalation valve be provided in the main mask body.

A steam-generating unit that is applied to the skin or the mucous membranes has a steam-generating part that employs chemical energy, and the surface applied to the skin or mucous membranes is made from a moisture-permeable sheet. The temperature of the steam generated by the steam-generating part and released from the surface of the steam-generating unit is kept to 50&deg; C. or lower. Steam that is as safe as that from a steam towel can be easily and continuously supplied to the skin and mucous membranes by this steam-generating unit.

A two-pack type keratinous fiber treating composition where the first pack contains an organic solvent and an acid and the second pack contains a cationic polymer and/or an amphoteric polymer. When keratinous fibers are treated with the keratinous fiber treating composition, the cationic polymer and the amphoteric polymer contained in the second pack penetrate into the keratinous fibers which have been swollen by the first pack. Thus, conditioning effects (for example, softness, moistness, smoothness and ease of arrangement of the hair) are exerted on the keratinous fibers for a prolonged period of time.
