In a co-generated power supply system for performing dispersed power supply to a load, a wind turbine generator, a solar cell and a fuel cell whose rated voltages are made equal to a rated voltage of a storage battery are used as DC power sources. These DC power sources, a commercial AC power source and the load are connected to each other via a bi-directional electronic transformer. Thus, the co-generated power supply system, in which the electric power of a natural energy system having many fluctuation factors is combined with stable electric power such as a load leveling battery or a fuel cell, allows the stable electric power to be supplied to the load via the electronic transformer commonly, thereby reducing the cost and enhancing the performance of the entire system.

A power factor improving circuit for reducing a harmonic current component contained in an AC input current and for achieving an excellent power factor and efficiency in a circuit having a rectifier circuit, provided between a rectifier circuit and a half-bridge-type inverter, including a discharging diode and a smoothing capacitor connected in series to each other and in parallel between output terminals of the rectifier circuit, a charging half-bridge rectifier connected to the smoothing capacitor, and a high-frequency capacitor and high-frequency inductor connected in series to each other and between an input terminal of the charging half-bridge rectifier and a connecting point of two transistors of the half-bridge-type inverter.

A single phase AC input voltage is subjected to a single-phase full-bridge rectifier to obtain a first rectified voltage. The first rectified voltage has a fundamental DC component and a harmonic component, the harmonic component being defined by a ripple voltage of the first rectified voltage. The first rectified voltage is then subjected to an auxiliary rectification in which the ripple voltage of the first rectified voltage is rectified. A resultant auxiliary DC component is added to the fundamental DC component to obtain a DC component of a rectified output voltage.

A guest-host type liquid crystal display device not requiring the use of external polarizers, comprises: at least two guest-host type liquid crystal cells which are superimposed one upon another, two of which are constructed in a manner that the liquid crystal molecules contained in these two cells and located close to the boundary between the two cells are aligned in a direction parallel to the plane of the boundary, but that the direction of alignment of the molecules in one of these two cells is perpendicular to that in the other cell when a voltage is applied to both cells, or alternatively when no voltage is applied to both cells, or alternatively when a voltage is applied to only one of these two cells. A method for making a fluorescent lamp from a pair of molded, flat glass shells. Substantially semi-circular recesses are formed on each shell on bonding surfaces thereof opposite semi-circular recess formed on the other glass shell, so that when the shells are bonded together, a circular orifice is formed on the lamp. An exhaust tube is provided, and a stem is affixed to an end of the exhaust tube, and an electrode filament and a getter plate are secured to the stem. The shells are bonded together with a glass adhesive and simultaneously therewith, the exhaust tube is sealed into the orifice so that the getter plate and the electrode filament thereof are disposed within the space between the bonded shells. The gases within the space between the shells are exhausted and mercury and an inert gas are injected into this space. The exhaust tubes then are sealed.
