A guide marker includes a substrate and a radio-wave reflecting unit for reflecting radio waves at certain intensity in all directions in a virtual plane, including the incident direction of the radio waves, the radio-wave reflecting unit being provided in the surface of the substrate. The radio-wave reflecting unit includes a concave and convex portions provided in the substrate or radio-wave reflectors which resonate at the frequency of incident radio waves and which reflect the radio waves in the incident direction. The radio-wave reflectors are mounted on the substrate. A visual guide marker device includes one of a light-reflecting component having a reflection characteristic and a light-generating component which self-generates light, and a guide marker including a dielectric material.

A radar module and a communication apparatus having enhanced detection capabilities obtainable by using the antenna device. In the antenna device, electromagnetic waves radiated from a primary radiator are transmitted to a plurality of openings, e.g., dielectric lenses and/or reflectors or optical transmitters. The dielectric openings are arranged on a fixed portion and the primary radiator is arranged on a moving portion. The moving portion is displaced relatively with respect to the fixed portion. This arrangement enables the selection of an opening used for receiving each of the electromagnetic waves from the primary radiator to change the direction of the beam.

Reflected waves are thereby superposed in phase opposition to each other to cancel out. In this manner, propagation of a reflected signal to ports is limited.

An antenna apparatus such that a dielectric strip and a dielectric resonator are provided to form a primary vertical radiator, another dielectric strip is provided which is coupled to the dielectric strip to form a directional coupler, and a radiation beam is tilted by changing the relative position of the primary radiator with respect to the dielectric lens by displacing the primary vertical radiator in the directional coupler.

An oscillation circuit is constructed by providing a line and a Gunn diode on a dielectric substrate, and an oscillation signal as the fundamental frequency signal of an oscillator is injected into the Gunn diode through a DC bias line. By disposing a dielectric stripline between upper and lower conductor plates, at NRD guide as an output transmission line is constructed, and the line and the NRD guide are coupled. The cutoff frequency of the NRD guide is determined so that the fundamental wave component of oscillation signal of the oscillation circuit is cut off and a harmonic is propagated.

In a non-radiative dielectric line, slots opposing each other are respectively formed on two conductive plates and a dielectric strip is disposed within both the slots to form a NRD guide. Convex portions &ldquo;P&rdquo; protruding in the lateral direction to the propagating direction of an electromagnetic wave are formed at a predetermined position of the dielectric strip while concave portions &ldquo;H&rdquo; are formed on internal surfaces of the slots in the conductive plates and so as to mate the both of them with each other. Variations in characteristics due to the positional slippage of the dielectric strip and so forth are prevented, and even when the dielectric strip is produced by machining, etc., the process is easily performed. Characteristics as a transmission line are also maintained without disturbing the electromagnetic field distribution in a mode to be propagated.

The present invention provides a small-sized oscillator facilitating the adjustment of a resonance frequency, permitting mass productivity to be improved, sufficiently suppressing a fundamental wave, and permitting cost reduction, and provides radio equipment using the oscillator. In this oscillator, an oscillation circuit is formed by providing a line and a Gunn diode on a dielectric substrate. An NRD guide serving as an output transmission line is formed by disposing a dielectric strip between upper and lower conductor plates, and the above-mentioned line and the NRD guide are coupled. The cut-off frequency of this NRD guide is determined so that the fundamental wave component of an oscillation signal from the oscillation circuit is cut off, so that higher harmonic components are propagated.

A directional coupler including a first transmission line and a second transmission line adjacent to the first transmission line, the relative positions of the first transmission line and the second transmission line being changeable, an antenna element connected to a part of the directional coupler, and a driving mechanism for driving the directional coupler and the antenna element.

A dielectric line converter which includes a dielectric stripline; an upper conductor surface and a lower conductor surface sandwiching the dielectric stripline; the upper and lower conductor surfaces having a first spacing in a first region along the dielectric stripline so as to form a first-kind dielectric line, a second spacing which is substantially zero in a second region so as to form a second-kind dielectric line, and a third spacing which is less than the first spacing in a line conversion region between the first and second regions. Grooves may be formed in the opposing surfaces of the upper and lower conductor surfaces, and the dielectric stripline may be arranged in the grooves. Impedance matching between the first-kind and second-kind dielectric lines is arranged n the line conversion region. The length of the line conversion portion may be set to be an odd multiple of &lgr;/4.

A device with a nonradiative dielectric waveguide which operates in a microwave band or in a millimeter wave band. The device with a nonradiative dielectric waveguide is, for example, an oscillator, a circulator, a coupler or the like. The device has a pair of parallel conductors, a dielectric strip which is disposed between the conductors and propagates a high-frequency electromagnetic wave in a specified mode, a mounting surface which is formed on one of the conductors, and an end surface which is defined by an end of each of the conductors so as to be vertical to a traveling direction of the electromagnetic wave propagated in the dielectric strip. An end of the dielectric strip is exposed at a corresponding end surface of the device.
