The polyester composition giving formed articles, such as fibers or films, exhibiting improved color depth and clarity, when dyed, has characteristics comprising an intrinsic viscosity of not less than 0.60, a methyl terminal group concentration of less than 1.0 equivalent/ton, and a carboxyl group concentration of not more than 60 equivalents/ton, and contains 0.1 to 5 percent by weight of a metal-containing phosphorous compound produced by reacting a phosphate ester with an alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal-containing compound in an amount of 0.5 to 3 parts by mole converted into the alkali metal per part by mole of said phosphate ester. Therein, the 'amount converted into the alkali metal' is the double of the molar number of the alkaline earth metal, when the alkaline earth metal is used, or the sum of the double of the mole number of the alkaline earth metal and the mole number of the alkali metal, when the alkali metal and the alkaline earth metal are simultaneously used.

Polyester composition and process for producing the same

A polyester composition containing fine particles with an average size of 0.03-1.8 &mgr;m which have been surface-modified with polyester (B) of which less than 70 mole percent of the repeating units consist of ethylene terephthalate, butylene terephthalate or ethylene naphthalate units, in polyester (A) of which at least 70 mole percent of the repeating units consist of ethylene terephthalate, butylene terephthalate or ethylene naphthalate units. The composition has a filtration pressure increase rate of no greater than 10 kg cm /hr when filtered using a double layer of 2400 mesh wire filters with an inner diameter of 64 mm&phgr;, a temperature of 290&deg; C. and a filtration rate of 33.3 g/min.

A process for preparing a modified thermoplastic resin composition by incorporating a modifier-containing thermoplastic resin into a transport line of a thermoplastic resin, comprising subjecting the resin to static mixing and to dynamic mixing by passing the resin through a dynamic mixing apparatus having a mixing blade unit and a power unit for driving the mixing blade unit and provided in the same transport line, as well as a modified thermoplastic resin composition prepared by the process and having a filtration pressure increase rate of no greater than 10 kg/cm,/hr when filtration is performed using a double layer of 2400 mesh wire filters with an inner diameter of 64 mm&phgr;, at a melting point of the modified thermoplastic resin or a temperature of from 20&deg; C. to 100&deg; C. higher than the plasticizing point of the resin and at a filtration rate of 33.3 g/min.
