An emergency resuscitation endoesophageal airway comprises an arch-shaped respiration tube closed at a distal end but opened at a proximal end; a first inflatable balloon of a rubber-like elastic material attached to the respiration tube at a position close to the distal end thereof for closing an esophagus of a patient; a second inflatable balloon of a flexible synthetic resin attached to the respiration tube at a position spaced from the proximal end thereof for closing a pharynx of the patient; and first and second inflating tubes for inflating the first and second inflatable balloons. The respiration tube is provided with air holes between the first and second inflatable balloons but rather near the second inflatable balloon, and the second inflatable balloon is so designed as to expand in both longitudinal and radial directions to an extent much greater than the first inflatable balloon.

Emergency resuscitation apparatus

Method and apparatus for analyzing the propagation of arterial pulse waves in a patient's circulatory system. The apparatus comprises R-wave detecting means for outputting an R-wave timing signal at the time of detection of the R-wave component contained in a detected electrocardiographic signal. A pulse wave peak detecting means is provided for outputting a peak timing signal at the time of the detection of a selected peak of the arterial pulse wave detected in the peripheral blood vessels of a patient's circulatory system. A pulse wave propagation time counter is provided for successively counting the time interval from the input of the R-wave timing signal to the input of the peak timing signal, and a pulse wave propagation time analyzer is provided for analyzing the distribution of pulse wave propagation times and other detected biophysiological parameters, from which an effective diagnosis of the condition of the patient's circulatory system can be made.

A cuff pressure regulator for controlling the pressure in an annular, collapsible and inflatable bag-like cuff of a cuffed endotracheal tube inserted in a patient's trachea, while allowing superposition of the patient's ventilatory pressure variation on the cuff pressure. The regulator has a second chamber communicating with the inside of the cuff and a third chamber communicating with the inside of the tube inserted in the patient's trachea. A diaphragm portion of the partition between the second chamber and the third chamber is connected to a cuff pressure setter, so that the pressure in the second chamber is set at a desired level by the setter and controlled in response to the pressure variation in the third chamber.

C. and to extend the period of preservation to 4 or 5 weeks without any further special additives.

A cuff regulator for an endotracheal-tube cuff comprising a first chamber connected to a pressurized gas supply source, and a second chamber connected to the first chamber through a pressure regulating valve and having an opening connected to a cuff of the cuffed endotracheal-tube. An orifice open to the external environment is provided in a part of a gas conduit between the second chamber and the cuff. A third chamber is also provided having the same pressure as that of the environment in which the cuff is existent. A valve driving apparatus drives the pressure regulating valve in response to the pressure difference between the third chamber and the second chamber, and a pressure setting device sets a desired cuff pressure at which opening and closing operations of the pressure regulating valve are actuated. With such construction, gas having a pressure higher than the desired cuff pressure is supplied from the pressurized gas supply source to the first chamber, and the cuff pressure is maintained at the desired cuff pressure set by the pressure setting device while the gas is slowly discharged toward the external environment through the orifice.

A breath-synchronized concentrated-oxygen supplier comprising an oxygen concentrator for producing and storing oxygen-enriched gas, and a buffer tank having an inlet connected to the oxygen concentrator and an outlet for temporarily storing the oxygen-enriched gas obtained from the concentrator. A valve is mounted in the outlet of the buffer tank so as to control flow of the oxygen-enriched gas from the buffer tank to the respiratory system of a living body, the valve having a gas flow path that is open to the atmosphere. A sensor, provided for sensing the respiration of the living body, generates an output signal indicative of the inhalation and exhalation phases of the respiration. An input device, on which a ratio between the entire length of the inhalation phase and a specific end portion thereof is set is included as is a regulator responsive to the sensor and input device for detecting the duration of each inhalation phase in succession based on the output signal from the sensor. The regulator also opens the valve at the beginning of each inhalation phase, and maintains the open time of the valve based on a period determined by a combination of averaging the preceding inhalation durations and the ratio set on the input device. Oxygen-enriched gas is supplied to the living body during each inhalation phase except for the specific end portion thereof, and the buffer tank acts to make the initial flow rate of the oxygen-enriched gas higher than the steady flow rate thereof in each inhalation phase.

Breath-synchronized concentrated-oxygen supplier

A method of producing oxygen rich gas utilizing an oxygen concentrator having a plurality of parallel-connected moisture/nitrogen removing units alternately operated to produce an oxygen-rich gas and connected through respective flow regulating valves to a common buffer tank for storing the gas thus produced. The flow regulating valves are operated so that, throughout substantially the second half of the operation cycle of each moisture/nitrogen removing unit, a portion of the gas having been processed by that unit is supplied to the other moisutre/nitrogen removing unit to restore its ability to remove the moisture and nitrogen and further so that, when the concentrator is to be stopped, a portion of the oxygen-rich gas stored in the buffer tank is caused to flow back into the one of the units having just finished a complete operation cycle to restore its ability to remove the moisture and nitrogen, thus providing immediate start-up of the units as well as immediate supply of oxygen-rich gas upon restarting the concentrator.
