A remote control manipulator system includes: a manipulator being controlled by an operator remotely to handle an object; a stereoscopic display device that displays a right-eye image and a left-eye image so as to be stereoscopically viewed; a model image generator that generates a model image being an image of an integrated three-dimensional model viewed from a viewpoint designated by the operator, the integrated three-dimensional model being a three-dimensional model obtained by integrating the manipulator model and a surrounding environment model being generated by performing image processing on the right-eye image and the left-eye image and being a three-dimensional model of the object and a surrounding environment thereof; and a model image display device that displays the model image and is configured to be able to be viewed by the operator switching between the stereoscopic display device and the model image display device through moving the head of the operator.

In a receiver for an OFDM modulated transmission signal including at least one synchronizing symbol in each frame, the synchronizing symbol is located by stepwise shifting a window along a reception sample sequence to make a cross-correlation calculator (55) calculate cross-correlation values between a stored pattern produced from a pattern memory (53) and sequence portions picked up by the window, a maximum selector (57, 59) select two successive maxima of the cross-correlation values at a time interval substantially equal to a frame period, and a controllable clock generator (61-65) generate a clock sequence at the time interval for use in sampling the sample sequence. On a transmitter side, the at least one synchronizing symbol may either be preceded by a null period or be a main synchronizing symbol preceded by an auxiliary synchronizing symbol for use in roughly defining ranges in which the window should be shifted.

An optical fiber coupler in which portions in the lengthwise direction of a plurality of optical fibers whose surface is coated with a carbon film are welded to each other and extended to form a connected portion, and the connected portion is not coated with a carbon film. This coupler is manufactured by arranging in parallel a plurality of optical fibers whose surface is coated with a carbon film so that the portions which are to form a connected portion are brought into contact with each other, and by heating the portions which are to form a connected portion in an atmosphere containing oxygen to join these portions by welding while extending the optical fibers. This optical fiber coupler has high hydrogen resistance and static fatigue strength. Also, the use of this coupler provides a small-sized system as a whole without degrading the optical characteristics.
