An oil temperature sensor mounting structure for an internal combustion engine is provided which is capable of improving appearance while protecting an oil temperature sensor with a simple structure and further capable of miniaturizing and downsizing a vehicle body. In the oil temperature sensor mounting structure for an internal combustion engine in which an oil temperature sensor for detecting temperature of oil is mounted to a cylinder portion protruding upwardly from a crankcase, the cylinder portion has an upper portion laterally covered with a body cover. A head cover is provided on a cylinder head constituting the upper portion of the cylinder portion. The head cover has an upper portion formed with a shoulder. The shoulder is located below a periphery thereof and protrudes laterally. The oil temperature sensor is mounted to the shoulder inwardly in a vehicle width direction of the body cover.

Oil temperature sensor mounting structure for internal combustion engine

An engine body includes a crankcase with a crank chamber therein, a cylinder block attached to the crankcase, and a breather passage which selectively permits fluid communication between the crank chamber and an area outside of the crank chamber. The engine body includes a one-way valve between the crank chamber and the breather passage, which allows a one-way flow of gases from the crank chamber to the breather passage. The one-way valve is pressure-operated and is operatively attached to a side wall of the engine body proximate a cylinder sleeve. The one-way valve may be mounted in a mounting window in a side wall of the crankcase, and a timing chamber may function as the breather passage. In an illustrative embodiment, the one-way valve includes a base plate having a valve hole formed therein, and a flexible reed valve plate with one end affixed to the base plate.

Engine component including breather apparatus, and engine body incorporating same

An ignition plug cooling device of a vehicle engine for efficiently cooling the ignition plugs while increasing the freedom in the arrangement of the ignition plugs. A vehicle engine includes a first ignition plug and a second ignition plug for making respective electrodes thereof face a combustion chamber and are mounted on a cylinder head. An air flow passage through which a flow of air passes and a cooling oil chamber through which lubrication oil for the engine passes are formed in the cylinder head. The first ignition plug is arranged in the air flow passage to enable a cooling of the first ignition plug by the flow of air which passes through the air flow passage. The second ignition plug is arranged adjacent to the cooling oil chamber to enable a cooling of an area around the second ignition plug by oil which passes through the cooling oil chamber.

Ignition plug cooling device of vehicle-use engine

An overhead-camshaft internal combustion engine having an outer wall of a crankcase provided adjacent a crankshaft, with a spiral-surfaced opening through which the crankshaft is passed. The outer crankcase wall is integrally provided with a loop guide engaging recess formed thereon. The loop guide engaging recess supports a base end portion of a loop guide for guiding an endless chain. A loop-retaining member for preventing the timing endless chain from dropping is arranged at a position on the lower side of a loop drive sprocket integrally formed at an end portion of the crankshaft.

Crankcase structure for an overhead-camshaft internal combustion engine, and engine incorporating same

A power unit includes a shaft member rotatably supported by the crankcase and a torsional coil spring, disposed at one end of the shaft member, biasing a swing arm in one rotational direction. An oil strainer is fixed to the crankcase through a strainer support bracket extending vertically relative to a strainer element. The torsional coil spring includes a coil portion wound around the shaft member, one end portion retained on the side of the shaft member, and the other end portion retained by a retaining portion formed integrally with the strainer support bracket.

Configuration of lubricating system for a power unit of a vehicle

A breather structure for internal combustion engine, the structure making a breather chamber smaller and thus making an internal combustion engine as a whole smaller. A breather chamber and a small chamber are formed. The breather chamber includes a first side face cover. The first side face cover is joined to a case to cover a first one of the right and left side faces of the case. Inside the first side face cover, an auxiliary apparatus chamber is formed. The auxiliary apparatus chamber houses a clutch mechanism connecting or disconnecting the power transmission route. Additionally, formed inside a housing are an external communication port communicating to the outside of the housing, and the small chamber communicating to a crank chamber and to the auxiliary apparatus chamber. Moreover, the auxiliary apparatus chamber communicates to the breather chamber.

Breather structure for internal combustion engine

A power unit of a vehicle, which includes an internal combustion engine and a transmission, is provided which is configured to quickly return lubricating oil fed to the transmission to an oil storage portion of the power unit case. The transmission includes a gear train housed in a gear chamber, the gear train executing power transmission among an input shaft, an intermediate shaft and an output shaft. The input shaft and the output shaft are arranged such that a line connecting their respective shaft centers extends almost horizontally above a communicating port which permits return oil flow between segregated portions of the power unit case. In addition, the intermediate shaft is disposed above and between the input shaft and the output shaft.

Vehicle power unit with improved lubrication oil recovery structure

An oil storage structure for an internal combustion engine is configured so that an oil pickup port remains immersed when an oil surface fluctuates, both in the fore-and-aft direction due to acceleration and deceleration of a vehicle, and also in the lateral direction, due to sudden turning of the vehicle. The oil storage structure includes an oil storage chamber provided at the bottom of the internal combustion engine, and an oil supply pipe for drawing in oil from a pickup port in the oil storage chamber. The oil storage chamber includes a first subchamber having an opening on top thereof for receiving the oil supply pipe, and a second oil subchamber provided adjacent to the first oil subchamber, and substantially sealed in relation thereto. An upper wall of the second oil subchamber is disposed at a level below a full oil surface level of the first oil subchamber.
