A multilayer body has a structure including insulating layers stacked on each other in an up-down direction. A first conductive layer is on a top main surface of one of the insulating layers. A first signal is transmitted through the first conductive layer. A second conductive layer is on a same insulating layer that the first conductive layer is on. The second conductive layer is on a same main surface as the top main surface or the bottom main surface of the insulating layer on which the first conductive layer is located. A second signal having a higher frequency than the first signal is transmitted through the second conductive layer. A top conductive layer is above the second conductive layer. A thickness of the second conductive layer in the up-down direction is smaller than that of the first conductive layer in the up-down direction.

A dielectric resonator comprising a resonator section and a supporting base section which are made of the same dielectric material as a single unit. The resonator section and the supporting base section have substantially the same outside diameter. A concave section having a trapezoidal cross-sectional shape is provided within the supporting base section such that the inside diameter of the supporting base section becomes smaller in the direction from the end face, which is used as a mounting face, and toward the resonator section.

There is provided a method for removing conductive portions, comprising the steps of: a first process for removing a conductive portion formed on a dielectric using a laser; and a second process for removing an affected layer produced in the removed portion by the laser using a short pulse laser. According to the above described method, the number of steps therein is reduced, conductive portions are removed without using a large number of apparatuses, and deterioration of &ldquo;Q &rdquo; does not occur.

A dielectric resonator includes a cylindrical hole formed in the intersection of two resonator elements forming a TM dual-mode dielectric resonator element. The hole extends in a direction across the thickness of the TM dual-mode dielectric resonator element. Furthermore, a quadrangular pyramid-shaped hole having a closed end is formed in each connecting part between each resonator element and a cavity wall so manner that each hole extends from the outer surface of the cavity wall toward the inner portion of each resonator element, wherein the inner wall of each hole is covered with a conductor electrically connected to a cavity conductor. The shapes of the above holes are determined so that the TM dual-mode dielectric resonator element has the same resonance frequency for both TM 110 and TM 111-modes. The above arrangement makes it possible to provide a low-cost high-performance dielectric resonator having characteristics similar to those of a three-mode dielectric resonator, which can be produced in a small overall size.

Dielectric resonator

In a TM dual mode dielectric resonator apparatus, a cross-shaped TM dual mode dielectric resonator is provided in an electrically conductive case, and the TM dual mode dielectric resonator includes first and second dielectric resonators integrally formed so as to be perpendicular to each other, and there is further formed at least one coupling groove for coupling an operation mode of the first dielectric resonator with that mode of the second dielectric resonator, wherein the coupling groove is formed on at least one of front and back surfaces of a crossing portion of the first and second dielectric resonators, in a diagonal direction thereof so as to cut electric lines of force of either one of an odd mode and an even mode. Alternatively, at least one coupling projection may be formed instead of the coupling groove.

Manufacturing apparatus for manufacturing TM dual mode dielectric

It is desirable to broaden a frequency adjusting range of a resonator, or an adjusting range of a coupling coefficient between two resonators, even in a downsized TM mode dielectric resonator by enhancing a ratio of frequency change relative to an amount of movement of a frequency adjusting dielectric rod, a frequency adjusting hole is formed in a direction orthogonal to a direction of an electric field which exists in a dielectric pillar at resonance, and a void is extended from the frequency adjusting hole in a direction that is orthogonal both to the electric field and also to the frequency adjusting hole. Thus the frequency adjusting range or the adjusting range of the coupling coefficient can be broadened even in a downsized TM mode dielectric resonator, even when the dielectric rod has a limited range of movement, without substantially enlarging the frequency adjusting dielectric rod.

In a TM dual mode dielectric resonator apparatus including a cross-shaped TM dual mode dielectric resonator provided in an electrically conductive case, the cross-shaped dielectric resonator being comprised of first and second dielectric resonators, mode coupling means such as at least one groove or the like for coupling an operation of the first dielectric resonator with that of the second dielectric resonator is formed in the TM dual mode dielectric resonator. At least one first projection of a dielectric material for adjusting a coupling coefficient between the two dielectric resonators is formed on a portion of the crossing portion, wherein an adjustment amount of the coupling coefficient when the first projection is removed is previously determined. Further, respective at least one second and third projections of dielectric materials for adjusting resonance frequencies of the first and second dielectric resonators are formed respectively in a portion of the first dielectric resonator other than the crossing portion and in another portion of the second dielectric resonator other than the crossing portion.

In a TM dual mode dielectric resonator apparatus, a cross-shaped TM dual mode dielectric resonator is provided in an electrically conductive case, wherein the TM dual mode dielectric resonator comprises first and second dielectric resonators integrally formed so as to be perpendicular to each other, and coupling grooves for coupling an operation mode of the first dielectric resonator with an operation mode of the second dielectric resonator are formed in the TM dual mode dielectric resonator. Cross-sectional areas or sizes such as thickness, widths or the like, of the first and second dielectric resonators are set so as to be different from each other. Alternatively, a hole for adjusting the resonance frequency is formed at an end of one of the first and second dielectric resonators so as to penetrate the same.
