A sub-injector injects liquid fuel into a vaporized-fuel chamber of a vaporized-fuel tank. The injected liquid fuel is vaporized in the vaporized-fuel chamber. The generated vaporized fuel is supplied to a combustion chamber through a vaporized-fuel passage. A supply of the vaporized fuel to the combustion chamber is controlled by a purge valve. Thereby, the vaporized fuel can be precisely supplied to the engine at a start of engine, so that emission can be reduced.

Fuel supply system

A device for controlling a partial number of engine cylinders employs a geneva movement, intake-air-cutoff valves, an exhaust-gas-cutoff valve and a DC motor. The geneva movement divides the driving force of the DC motor into two: a force intermittently driving the intake-air-cutoff valves and a force driving the exhaust-gas-cutoff valve, so that the exhaust-gas-cutoff valve cannot open until the intake-air-cutoff valve has closed when the engine operation is changed over to a partial-cylinder-operation mode, and the intake-air-cutoff valve cannot open until the exhaust-gas-cutoff valve has closed when the engine operation is changed over to the full-cylinder-operation mode. As a result, time required for changeover of the engine operation between the full-cylinder operation and the partial-cylinder operation is minnimized and additional driving unit is omitted.

A cooling system for a water cooled internal combustion engine for a vehicle includes an engine body having a water jacket therein. The system comprises a radiator and a pump chamber. The pump chamber is in communication with the water jacket. A water pump creates a flow of water into the water jacket. A first main conduit has an end connected to the water jacket at the engine outlet and another end connected to the radiator. A second main conduit has an end connected to the radiator and another end connected to the pump chamber. A reservoir tank is arranged at a position more elevated than the radiator, and a supplementation conduit connects a bottom portion of the reservoir tank with an upper part of the pump chamber. A thermostat valve is arranged between the second main conduit and the pump chamber at a position upstream from a location where the supplementation conduit is connected to the pump chamber. A check valve is arranged in parallel with the thermostat valve and allows the introduction of air from the pump chamber to the second main conduit while preventing a flow of the air from the second main conduit to the pump chamber. The check valve is in a normally closed position under the force of gravity and is switchable to an opened position in response to a predetermined amount of air pressure in the pump chamber.

Cooling system for a water cooled internal combustion engine

A sealed type engine cooling system having a reservoir tank connected to the engine recirculating water passageway by inlet pipes connected to the upper outlet of an engine cooling water passageway and to the upper inlet of a radiator. The bottom portion of the reservoir tank is connected to the bottom of the engine cooling water passageway, for supplementing the engine cooling water, and is provided with a cap with a relief valve, to thereby discharge vapor created in the cooling water passageway under a hot soak condition. The relationship between the inner diameter of the pipes is such that the effective cross sectional area of the inlet pipe means is 1.5 to 3 times larger than the effective cross sectional area of the outlet pipe means, or the inlet pipe is arranged so that a minimum distance is obtained between the engine upper portion and the radiator, or a check valve is arranged in the outlet pipe, or the space inside the reservoir tank is partitioned into chambers, and the inlet and outlet pipes are connected to separate chambers.

Cooling system for an internal combustion engine

Disclosed in an intake pipe pressure detecting device for detecting the pressure in that section of an intake pipe in an internal combustion engine which is on the downstream side of a throttle valve provided in the intake manifold. The pressure detecting device comprises a mixing chamber which has an opening in the wall of the intake pipe, a pressure introducing path which opens onto this mixing chamber, and air inlets adapted to allow fresh air to enter the mixing chamber, thereby generating an air flow directed from the mixing chamber to the intake pipe.

A hydraulic valve lift device for internal combustion engines includes a lifter having therein an oil pressure chamber for introduction of oil and slidably disposed in a cylindrical bore of a housing with one end thereof engaged by a cam or a cam shaft, and a plunger slidably disposed in the lifter for opening and closing an intake or exhaust valve of which a valve lift is variable depending upon the rotational speed of the cam by discharging oil from the oil pressure chamber through a throttling port. A braking chamber is defined by a flange portion of the plunger and the cylindrical bore, and is communicated through a slit with a oil feed chamber adapted to allow oil to flow thereinto. A relief valve is provided for communicating with the braking chamber to control its oil pressure below a set value. A control device is provided for controlling the relief valve depending upon an output of a detector such that the set force of the valve corresponds with a desired value.

An automatic drive mehanism for controlling a travelling speed of a vehicle at a preset value by transmitting the rotational movement of the members on the input shaft side driven by an electric motor to the output shaft side through an electromagnetic clutch to rotate an output member disposed on the output shaft side through a desired angle. The automatic drive mechanism comprises a stationary housing to be fixed to the vehicle, an electric motor, reduction gears, a coil cover driven by the reduction gears, an electromagnetic coil fixed to the housing and surrounded by the coil cover, a magnetic core member joined to the coil cover and rotating at a central portion of the electromagnetic coil, a clutch plate facing the coil cover, a friction engagement member intervening between the clutch plate and the coil cover, an output shaft joined to the clutch plate and supported rotatably and shiftably in the direction of its axis by the housing, an output member joined to the output shaft and associated with an accelerator mechanism of the vehicle, feed means arranged to extend through a first angular slot provided in the clutch plate and energizing the electromagnetic coil, and fixing members extending through a second angular slot provided in the clutch plate and fixing the electromagnetic coil to the housing.
