A supplementary restraint system for a vehicle occupant is provided which includes a supplemental restraint system module assembly connected to an airbag deployment chute incorporated into a vehicle instrument panel. A module assembly support bracket is provided that attaches the module assembly onto a frame portion on the vehicle. The support bracket includes a hook for insertion into an aperture on the frame portion. The support bracket also includes one or more bracket holes for alignment with respective frame portion holes upon proper positioning of the hook. Methods of factory installation of an SRS and removal of a deployed SRS are also disclosed herewith.

SRS serviceable module and methods of installing and removing

A method of folding together a vehicle side curtain airbag is provided that includes bending a base section of an extended air bag toward the outboard side of the vehicle and fully over onto a middle section of the air bag located directly above the base section. The adjacent base and middle sections are then rolled, as a group, by first moving a crease line between the base and middle sections toward the outboard side of the vehicle, then curling the crease line back toward the unrolled portion of the base and middle sections and then rolling the remainder of the unrolled portion of the base and middle sections. A top section of the airbag is collapsed in a pleated manner.

Method for storing a side curtain air bag

An air bag system for a front-seat passenger, includes a main body portion of an emblem is brought into contact with a surface of an instrument panel at a reverse face thereof, a bolt provided on the reverse face of the main body portion to protrude therefrom passes through the instrument panel and a mounting portion of an air bag module and a nut screwed on and fastened to the bolt so that the air bag module is fixed to the instrument panel easily and rigidly without using heat clamping which is less stable in quality. There is no risk that surface sinks are generated in the surface of the instrument panel to thereby deteriorate the aesthetic appearance thereof, since there is no need to provide bosses on a reverse face of the instrument panel for heat clamping.

Air bag system mounting structure

An air bag module of a passenger side air bag apparatus is sized and shaped to pass through a glove box opening portion of an instrument panel. An opening in an upper portion of a casing of the module faces the inner surface of an air bag lid, which is molded in one piece with a top wall part of the instrument panel. A lower portion of the module casing is fixed detachably to a steering hanger beam via a lower locking mechanism capable of being manipulated via the glove box opening portion. The upper portion of the module casing is fixed detachably to the top wall part of the instrument panel via an upper locking mechanism. Both the upper and lower locking mechanisms are capable of being manipulated via the glove box opening portion for easy installation and removal of the air bag module, but reliably support the module, even when the air bag is inflated and deployed.

Passenger-side air bag apparatus

A method and system for increasing speeds of transferring data in a data transfer system which includes a data source and data sink. Both the data source and data sink include clocks which are synchronized to a common clock frequency. A buffer is provided at the data sink and this buffer is utilized to received data from the data source. A control circuit is provided at the data sink and this control circuit receives a bus clock signal from the data source. An N segment dynamic shift register is provided within the data sink which includes at least two segments. A selectable shift control is provided for passing the data through an M segment subset of the N segment shift register, where M is less than N. Additionally, the length of the M segment subset is determined by the phase of a clock within the data sink at the time which the bus clock signal from the data source is received at the data sink. By selectively passing the data through an M segment subset of the N segment shift register, the data is accessible at the data sink at a controllable predetermined time.

Method and system for data transfer

An opening is defined in an upper portion of a side surface of an instrument panel, such that it is opposed to an air bag module mounted in front of a passenger's seat within the instrument panel. A tray is removably locked in the opening by a locking device. If the tray is removed from the opening, the air bag module is exposed and thus, it is possible for an operator to easily carry out the maintenance operation and the removal of the air bag module in a comfortable position without bending his body.
