A remote control system and a remote control apparatus allow a human operator to remotely control a mobile body easily even if the system uses a low-speed communications link. The remote control system includes a remote control apparatus, in which a CPU selects old information based on both old information and the latest mobile body information from a mobile body, and determines a virtual view point V. The CPU generates a three-dimensional environmental image K and the virtual view point V based on the selected old information, and also generates a mobile body model M, a reference point B and a clipping center point based on the latest mobile body information and data regarding a mobile body model M, in a global coordinate system GC. The CPU calculates an angle of view based on a distance d between the virtual viewpoint V and the reference point B, makes a perspective projection of the three-dimensional environmental image K and the mobile body model M from the virtual view point V toward the clipping center point to obtain a projected image, makes a clip from the projected image based on the angle of view thereby making a composite image, and converts the composite image into a display image of a predetermined size. The resulting display image is displayed on a monitor.

The receiver is capable reducing a period of time necessary for a frequency search without forcing the user of the receiver to perform any special setting operation. This reduces the probability of missing a call meant for the receiver and saves power to be allocated to frequency search.

A multi-area pager includes a scan list table having multiple entries for storing data representing frequencies and area codes and an area information table for storing data representing a frequency and an area code associated with a received paging signal. When an out-of-range indication is given after synchronization sequences are not properly detected, the power-consuming receiver of the pager is briefly deactivated and then controlled according to the frequency data of the area information table to demodulate a paging signal. An area code of the signal is compared with that of the area information table if a synchronization sequence is detected. If that sequence is not detected or if the area codes do not match, the receiver is controlled according to the frequency data of a specified entry of the scan list table to demodulate a paging signal. Again, an area code of the signal is compared with that of the specified entry if a synchronization sequence is detected. If that sequence is not detected or if the area codes do not match again, a subsequent entry of the scan list table is specified, the receiver is again controlled, after a brief turn-off interval, according to the frequency data of the area information table. If there is a match between the area codes, the area information table is updated with the data of the specified entry.

A radio selective calling receiver has a function of causing a reception section for receiving a transmitted radio signal to intermittently receive the radio signal by intermittently supplying a reception section power supply ON signal for turning on the reception section. The radio selective calling receiver detects the movement of the receiver out of a coverage zone on the basis of data indicating that the radio signal received by the reception section contains no sync signals having a predetermined period. The receiver then determines the state of movement out of the coverage zone on the basis of a received state of the sync signals within a predetermined period of time in the past until the movement of the receiver out of the coverage zone is detected, and controls the time intervals at which the reception section power supply ON signal is supplied to the reception section in accordance with the determined state.

In a power monitor circuit, AC power-line voltage is converted by a DC power supply to a regulated DC voltage. The DC power supply shuts down itself in the event of a failure therein. The output of DC supply rises from zero to a specified value in slow response to power-on state and drops to zero in slow response to a significant drop in the AC voltage. A rectifier-filter converts the AC voltage to a nonregulated DC voltage. The output of the rectifier-filter rises in quick response to the power-on state and drops in quick response to the significant AC voltage drop. If the output of DC power supply drops below a specified theshold due to AC power-line failure or due to its own failure, a DC low-voltage signal is generated. If the output of rectifier-filter rises above a specified low level a first AC transitory signal is generated and if it drops below a specified high level a second AC transitory signal is generated. A latch circuit is energized with the nonregulated DC voltage to latch the DC low-voltage signal if it occurs during the interval between the first and second AC transitory signals and supplies a DC alarm signal to computer circuitry. A power controller is energized with the regulated DC voltage to supply control signals to the computer circuitry in response to the first and second AC transistory signals.
